Create a character: write, test and publish a work

Build a playable character, not just a promotional description. Define identity and relationships, write an opening and examples, then test before checking visibility and review status.

Open character management

Facts reviewed:

1. Create the character, not your reader persona

Sign in, open character management in settings and create a work. The character Card describes the other character; the current persona in chat describes who you play. They are not interchangeable.

Start with a recognizable name and short introduction. Confirm ownership and editing permission before changing fields.

2. Separate description from the scene

Use the full description for identity, motives, personality and relationships. Use plot fields for place, time, conflict and the starting situation. The short introduction helps readers choose the work.

Writing example, not a real conversation: a cautious archivist asks for your help finding a lost document without choosing your actions. This is easier to test than claims of perfect intelligence or permanent memory.

3. Give the opening and example messages different jobs

The opening should create a situation the user can respond to. Example messages show voice and expression; leave room for the user to make choices.

Complete basic mode first. Use advanced output or dedicated modes only when needed: available fields and presentation can differ, so templates are not automatically portable between modes.

4. Add images and decoration after text works

Upload the avatar, high-resolution display image and chat background for their separate uses. Wait for completion, check mobile cropping and use only material you may publish.

Test plain-text interaction before adding styles or widgets. The separate beautification and widget chapters explain those steps; decoration must not cover reading or navigation controls.

5. Saving, testing and publishing are separate

After saving fields, preview or start a test chat. Check the opening, consistent characterization and user choice. Keep notes and change one issue at a time.

A saved draft is not necessarily public or approved. Check visibility, submission and review status. Existing chats may pin an older character version, so they are not by themselves proof that publication failed.

Frequently asked questions

Why do readers or older chats still see the previous version?

Check the save result, visibility, approval of the public version and the version selected in that chat. These are separate stages; saving a field does not update every place immediately.
