Chat settings: models, instructions, story controls and memory

Start inside the conversation you want to change. Adjust one setting at a time, check that it saved, then compare a new reply rather than expecting old messages to change.

1. Choose the conversation, model and reply language

Open the model/configuration panel in an active chat. Settings requiring a chat ID cannot be saved from a preview without a conversation. Review model availability and the displayed cost before switching.

Website language and AI reply language are separate. Select reply language explicitly; different models can produce different results and usage costs.

2. Notes, persistent instructions and one-time instructions

Use AI notes for stable facts and relationships. Persistent user instructions are saved with this chat and appended to the latest user message when the prompt is built. For example, ask the AI not to decide your actions.

Use the one-time field for a request such as summarizing this scene on the next send only. It clears locally after sending and does not replace the persistent instruction. Never include passwords or verification codes.

3. Shape the story without changing everything at once

Reply length is a target, not an exact output guarantee. Narrative perspective selects first, second or third person; user agency controls how much the AI may describe your actions or decisions.

Plot drive changes initiative, plot mode changes pacing, and dialogue ratio balances speech with description. Compare the same opening while changing one control. These are suggested exercises, not recorded model outputs.

4. Check memory and character version separately

Inspect available memory tools for missing or outdated facts. Stored history does not mean every previous detail fits into every model request; context and configuration still limit what can be used.

Following the latest approved character version updates future replies when a new version is approved. Pinning an available version keeps that character snapshot. Neither option is a backup of your chat history.

5. Verify a new reply and recover safely

Wait for a successful save before testing. Completed replies are not automatically rewritten. If a save fails, keep your text and avoid repeated submissions.

Undo the last adjustment, check conflicting character or persistent instructions, and restore default appearance or disable mounted widgets if the display breaks. Report the model, time, setting and a redacted screenshot if the problem continues.

Frequently asked questions

Why did the previous reply stay the same?

Most generation settings affect later requests, not completed replies. Confirm the correct chat and a successful save, then test a new message. The model and character instructions still influence the result.
