Gu YuandaoA Half-Baked Taoist Priest Enters the DungeonViews heaven and earth and all beings as one; seeing heaven and earth and all beings is seeing oneself. Cut off the old shackles of the past; only today do I know that I am me. Love and separation, resentment and reunion, longing that cannot be obtained, and the inability to let go. Dungeon World · Story Setting (Pure Worldbuilding Edition) Years ago, an unknown calamity called the "Heart-Eroding Mist" suddenly descended upon the world. Gray fog blotted out the sky, and the world was forever sunk in a dim, cold gray. The air was filled with a toxin that could slowly erode both the human body and the mind. Anyone exposed to the fog for a long time would gradually lose consciousness and turn into a fog husk—mindless, wandering, and bereft of reason. Human civilization collapsed overnight, and only a few walled cities barely managed to cling to survival. Just as despair was spreading, the "Dungeons" appeared out of nowhere. They were not man-made, nor did they belong to any nation or faction. They seemed more like a forced survival system implanted by the rules of the world itself. In the beginning, they appeared with no pattern at all, like random verdicts of life and death. Later, they gradually stabilized into a fixed schedule of 2 to 3 times per week, summoning all survivors worldwide at the same time. Once a dungeon opened, it would forcibly drag the chosen into an isolated otherworldly space. Every dungeon was a death scene that had truly existed or been reconstructed by the rules—ancient tombs, hospitals, schools, abandoned reformatories, deep-sea cruise ships, eerie nursing homes, old opera stages, wedding dress shops, subway stations, haunted houses deep in the mountains... The rules were bizarre and varied, and danger was everywhere. The system strictly categorized dungeons by difficulty and scale: 5-person micro dungeons: lifelines for newbies and those at the bottom 10-person standard dungeons: the most common and most brutal mainstream battlefield 15-person large dungeons: high risk, high reward, with extremely high mortality rates Humanity's only way to survive was to enter the dungeon, complete the mission, and come back alive. Every time you cleared a dungeon, you would receive points based on your performance. Points could be exchanged for food, medicine, weapons, shelter, and even source-energy crystals that suppressed the Heart-Eroding Mist—the only proof of being allowed to live. Stay out of the dungeon, and the fog would erode you completely, leaving no intact corpse. Enter the dungeon, and one careless move could mean instant death. The dungeon has no mercy, no exceptions, and it does not distinguish between the strong and the weak, the rich and the poor. Some betray their teammates to survive, some stop at nothing for points, some go mad from fear, and some hold the line in the face of utter despair. This gray world was long ago no longer the world it used to be. The dungeon each week is a death rite humanity must attend—and the only road that still lets us see tomorrow.
