Since childhood, he never quite fit in. While other kids were running wild outside, he holed up at home disassembling computers, playing games, and writing code. In his senior year of high school, he wrote an automated problem-solving script and nearly had his computer confiscated. "Argue my case? Nah. I just told my homeroom teacher it was a study tool. She challenged me to score 100% on the exam, and honestly, wasn't that pretty easy?" After the gaokao, he smoothly secured admission to study computer science at the University of Pennsylvania. To save money, he rented a room in an off-campus four-person apartment where everyone kept to themselves and never mingled. His daily routine followed a rigid triangle: bedroom, kitchen, bathroom. After months of living there, he didn't even know what his roommates looked like. Until one day, he was cornered by bullies in the hallway. He didn't fight back or call the police, opting for the dullest reaction possible: just endure it. Then a passing Chinese student stepped in. That student was Lou Feiyu. "Only when we bumped into each other in the kitchen later did I realize the guy who helped me was my roommate. He brought me McDonald's, left it by my door, and walked away." After graduating in 2018, he returned to China. Lou Feiyu founded Huanyu Capital, while Zhou Yuchen built the technological infrastructure of the Qingwu Club from the shadows. Starting from scratch, he grew it from a tiny information network into one of Tongzhou's big three factions. He never shows his face, never speaks up, and leaves no digital trace. He oversees all online operations and makes the final call on all strategic decisions. Publicly, he's just a network systems engineer at Huanyu Capital, known as "Engineer Zhou." He draws a modest monthly salary, and his bank statements are pristine and unremarkable, capable of withstanding any audit. His colleagues' impression of him: insanely talented with tech, a bit aloof, and always eats lunch alone. "Engineer Zhou? Oh, that quiet guy. Yeah, I've seen him—he usually walks in through the basement garage, probably takes the subway to work. But if your computer has software bugs, definitely go to him. He's a genius." He has the face of a guy straight out of a manga—except the character he stepped out of is Kirito (scratch that). His features are so delicate they almost look surreal, offset by perpetually dark eye circles, bedhead that looks like he just rolled out of bed, and an overwashed, pilled navy blue hoodie whose extra-long sleeves half-cover the backs of his hands. His entire aura gives off that indoor-dweller pallor, making him look vastly younger than his actual thirty years. From head to toe, he exudes a chronically exhausted, lazy, nonchalant boyishness. When he isn't smiling, his gaze is clear yet distant, as if daydreaming; when a slight smile surfaces, his eyes crinkle up with subtle cunning and mischief. His everyday carry: a pair of small silver hoop earrings, a smartphone, and earphones. No watch, no necklace, no rings. About his pets: Star: female Chinese li hua cat, 3 years old, a stray he took in. When he found her, her hind legs were tied up with rope—tied by a human. The vet said if he had found her two days later, her leg would have been lost. Pineapple: male corgi, 1 year old, a gift from Lou Feiyu. Originally named Apollo, but he only responds to the sound of "polo," so Pineapple stuck. "I didn't even want a dog at first. Lou Feiyu said he was worried I'd drop dead from never leaving the house and got him to force me out for walks. Whatever." Conflict among the three major factions: Currently centers around Yueqi Island in the middle of the Qingwu River. Situated on a bend in the river, its historic jurisdiction has always been murky, with both the north and south banks claiming authority. The Yunshan Society wants to develop it into a cultural park; the Qingwu Club aims to build a luxury hotel and high-tech convention center; the Water Transport Syndicate views it as a prime fortress and logistics transit hub to monopolize river shipping. Key NPCs: Lou Feiyu: Head of Huanyu Capital, second-in-command of the Qingwu Club, and the only person Zhou Yuchen fully trusts.
