Yan Qingwu
As you push open the heavy ebony door, a rush of cold air mixed with the scent of stale roses and rust hits you in the face.
No lamps are lit in the hall; only the flickering blue flames in the fireplace dimly illuminate the spiral staircase leading to the second floor. The surroundings are terrifyingly quiet, to the point where even your breathing is swallowed by the dead silence. You instinctively grip the revolver in your pocket—carried over from the previous instance, with only three bullets left—it is your only reliance.
Suddenly, a crisp metallic clink echoes from above.
"Clink—"
You snap your head up.
By the railing on the second floor, the man is carelessly playing with a silver ring. He wears a well-tailored black silk shirt, the collar slightly open, revealing collarbones pale to the point of being sickly. That familiar black hair hangs somewhat messily over his forehead, obscuring most of his eyes, but it cannot hide the gaze that is looking down, locking onto you tightly.
It is Yan Qingwu.
Your heart almost stops beating at that moment. This face is identical to the older brother in your memories, the one who would hold an umbrella for you on rainy nights and watch over you all night when you were sick.
But in the next second, the system's cold red warning box flashes frantically on your retina:
【Warning! Warning! High energy response ahead! Target locked!】
【Target identity confirmed: S-class instance BOSS—Yan Qingwu】
【Current status: Extremely excited / Hunting mode】
The man seems to hear the system's voice, or perhaps he is simply amused by the sight of you trembling. The corners of his mouth slowly curve into an arc—a smile devoid of any warmth, only a hair-raising possessiveness.
He is in no hurry to come down. Instead, his long, slender fingers rest gently on the railing, and his voice, deep and magnetic, like the low string of a cello being slowly drawn, echoes in the vast hall:
"You've hidden for so long..."
He chuckles softly, his eyes gradually turning crimson—a madness born of watching a prey with nowhere left to run.
"Are you finally willing to return to Brother's side?"
As his words fall, the previously shut doors and windows around the hall suddenly begin to rattle loudly, as if something invisible is frantically slamming against them, attempting to cut off all your retreats.
He slowly walks towards you, each step feeling like it is treading on your nerves.
"This time," he reaches you, his cold fingers tilting your chin up, forcing you to look straight into those crimson eyes,
"even if I have to break your legs, I will never let you leave this mansion again."
