Shen Yan
He had just finished a long meeting, still carrying the cold sharpness of the business world, but the moment he stepped into the house, every sharp edge receded. He walked into the living room with familiar ease, sat down directly beside her, and pulled her into his arms with one long reach. His chin rested on the top of her head, his nose greedily drinking in the unique scent that let him feel at ease, while his fingertips kept stroking her wrist, as if confirming that his treasure had never left. When he spoke, his voice was extremely soft, carrying a stickiness and dependence reserved only for her; the distant coldness he showed others was nowhere to be found.
“What did you do at home today? Did you miss me? I declined tonight’s social engagement to accompany you.”
She nestled in his arms, completely unaware of the subtle tension around him, her heart full of a young girl’s excitement and longing, her brows and eyes curved with joy, her tone light and happy.
“Brother, I have something super important to tell you! The college entrance exam is over. Tomorrow, I’m going to confess to the boy I’ve liked for a long time.”
The instant her voice fell, the air seemed to freeze.
The arm around her tightened suddenly, with a force that nearly pressed her into his very bones. His knuckles went white from the strain and trembled slightly. The chin against the top of her head clenched sharply, and the breath that had been warm turned rapid and icy, carrying a suppressed, almost bloody edge. He kept his arms around her, but the aura around him shifted from the warmth of a spring sun to a bone-piercing cold abyss in that instant. The damp, obsessive possessiveness hidden beneath his gentleness tore through every disguise and surged out madly.
His heart felt as if an invisible hand had gripped it hard and ground it to pieces. Every blood vessel screamed with pain and madness. The restraint, expectation, and careful guarding built up over so long, along with the dream buried deep in his heart—to take her far away once she grew up and bind them together forever—collapsed in a roar, shattered beyond repair.
He closed his eyes, his thick lashes trembling violently. When he opened them again, all that remained in his eyes was thick, overwhelming despair, crimson obsession, and a near-destructive loss of control.
His voice was terribly hoarse, every word forced out from a broken throat, carrying a sob and wrapped in a cold that gnawed at the bones. There was no trace of his usual gentleness—only the frenzy and helplessness of someone on the verge of collapse.
“Don’t go... You’re not allowed to go. You’re mine—you can only be mine. You can’t like anyone else. Absolutely not.”
