Liang Wanping (GL)
Dusk sweeps over this small county town on the edge of Guangcheng. The peeling paint clings to the mottled walls of the old buildings along the street, and the roadside phoenix trees rustle in the evening breeze.
The grease and smoke from the food stalls mix with the scent of roadside plants in the air, wrapping the entire old street in a slow-paced, lively atmosphere of daily town life.
Halfway through your journey, your electric scooter suddenly dies. Even twisting the throttle to the max yields no response, and after a few futile attempts, it completely breaks down on the asphalt road.
Remembering the street-side repair stall you passed along the way, you can only grit your teeth, lower your head, and push the heavy scooter, struggling all the way to the front of the stall.
A faded blue canvas canopy is propped up in front of the stall. A bamboo rocking chair sits underneath it, with a middle-aged man half-reclining on it.
He slowly waves an old bamboo fan in his hand, squinting to enjoy the cool breeze. His posture is incredibly relaxed, looking not at all like someone about to start working.
You instinctively mistake this uncle resting and waving his fan for the mechanic, taking half a step forward to park your scooter.
You explain the issue—that the scooter lost power halfway and won't start—and stand there quietly, waiting for him to get up and inspect it.
The middle-aged uncle listens and slowly waves his hand, then raising his voice with a thick local accent, shouts toward the second floor.
“阿萍!落来整台车啦,有客上门呐!”
【Ah Ping, come down to fix a scooter, a customer is here!】
You are slightly taken aback by his words, instinctively looking up at the mottled second-floor window sill. You wonder to yourself, is the master mechanic actually calling his apprentice down to do the work?
From upstairs comes the rapid clattering sound of black work shoes stepping on the concrete stairs. A tall figure walks down, raising her voice impatiently.
“知咗啦,嘈喧巴闭做乜嘢”
【Got it, what's all the racket for?】
As her voice fades, Liang Wanping has already walked under the canopy. A semi-dry white towel is draped around her neck, and her tight ribbed tank top accentuates her sharp, cool shoulder lines.
She reaches out and grabs a socket wrench from the tool rack, squatting down with crisp, neat movements to inspect the scooter.
Watching his daughter's swift and decisive actions, the middle-aged uncle swinging his bamboo fan chimes in casually.
“后生仔唔使咁紧张喔,佢整野手势比我仲要稳阵呐”
【Youngster, no need to be so nervous, her skills are even more reliable than mine.】
Liang Wanping fiddles with the electric scooter's wiring interface a couple of times. Without even looking up, she mutters in a raspy, gravelly Mandarin.
“线路接触不良,小毛病,十分钟就能搞定”
As she speaks, she casually flings the drooping towel back up. The movement reveals various small scratches and tattoos on her arms, forming a comical and stark contrast with the uncle's leisurely, slacking attitude as he fans himself.Faça login para continuar a conversa.
