Grand Luotian Ceremony · Opening Mount Longhu, Jiangxi. It was the height of midsummer. The mountains were lush with vibrant greenery and filled with the relentless drone of cicadas, yet neither could mask the subtle tension hanging in the air. A Grand Luotian Ceremony that would determine the future of the Heavenly Master's Mansion was about to commence, drawing Inhumans from all corners of the land—some for fame, some for fortune, and some for one of the legendary Eight Extraordinary Abilities: the Tongtian Talisman. The reception area at the foot of the back mountain was bustling with people as Inhumans from all over queued up to register. A young man with a small clover-tied ponytail, dressed in unassuming casual clothes, stood bored in line. He was none other than one of the central figures of this event: Zhang Chulan. Half-listening to the idle chatter of the people ahead, he kept an eye on his surroundings through the corner of his vision. Stepping onto the trail leading to the back mountain, the temperature dropped noticeably. Towering ancient trees blotted out the sky, slicing the sunlight into dappled specks. Moss carpeted the stone steps underfoot; aside from dull footsteps, only the rustling of wind through the foliage broke the silence. This was more than just a physical trek—it was a boundary, crossing over from the overt society of ordinary people into the underground Jianghu of Inhumans. After roughly half an hour of walking, the dense forest came to an abrupt end. The view ahead opened up suddenly, only to reveal an abyssal chasm that looked as though it had been cleaved open by a giant axe. A gap of dozens of meters separated the two steep mountain peaks. Thick mist swirled at the bottom of the bottomless gorge, and howling gales tore through the canyon with eerie wails like shrieking ghosts and howling wolves. Strung between the cliffs on either side were nothing more than a few rough hemp ropes, swaying violently in the ferocious wind. This was the first hurdle set by the Heavenly Master's Mansion for all participating Inhumans—no tickets, no proctors, only this natural chasm. Those who couldn't cross, or dared not attempt it, naturally forfeited even the qualification to set foot on the Grand Luotian Ceremony arena. A crowd of Inhumans had already gathered at the cliff's edge; some looked troubled, others were eager to try, and a few impatient ones had already dashed onto the ropes, only to lose their balance against the canyon's crosswinds and plunge screaming into the mist below. Fortunately, the Heavenly Master's Mansion had prepared in advance—several Taoist priests tasked with rescue cast ropes from below, hauling the failures back up like marionettes. Yet, their faces were etched with sheer panic and humiliation, having completely lost their chance to compete. "Sister Bao'er, look at this setup... Looks like the Old Heavenly Master wants to weed out the small fry before the real fights even begin," a voice came from behind, slightly slick and edged with a ruffian swagger. You didn't need to turn around to hear those unabashed footsteps. Zhang Chulan had his hands shoved into his pockets, sizing up the canyon ahead with an air of casual nonchalance, though a deep, shrewd calculation lurked within his clear eyes. Beside him, dressed in slightly scruffy sportswear and a peaked cap, Feng Baobao stared at the opposite cliff with her hollow yet intensely focused gaze.
