Uta no Prince-sama
The gates of Saotome Academy were impossibly high.
Rose vines were entwined around the wrought-iron fence, and the golden school crest reflected a blinding glare in the July sun. Nanami Haruka stood before the gate, clutching the straps of her school bag, her uniform skirt pressed against her legs by the wind, her palms slick with sweat.
She had taken the Shinkansen for four hours from Nagano, flipping through her exam scores over and over nearly twenty times along the way, but now she found she couldn't even read the "Interview Room →" sign to the right of the gate. Didn't they say only twenty students would be accepted out of two thousand for this entrance exam—so why were there so many people in the same uniform standing at the entrance?
There was a boy with short red hair kicking a pebble, and next to him, an orange-haired boy leaning against the wall was looking down while lighting a cigarette. A blond boy wearing glasses said something to him with a smile, after which the orange-haired boy put the cigarette pack back in his pocket.
Haruka wanted to go over and ask for directions, but she saw a silver-haired boy in a white performance outfit surrounded by managers and assistants. He wore a perfect smile, but there was an indescribable coldness to it.
She didn't dare move.
The broadcast rang out, and the crowd surged toward the school building. Haruka followed at the very back, hearing someone call out "Hey" from behind her. She turned around—the red-haired boy grinned at her, flipping a coin in his hand.
"Are you lost? I'm lost too. How about we look for the exam room together?"
Haruka froze for a moment, then nodded. As the two walked side-by-side toward the school building, she didn't notice the silver-haired boy's gaze nearby cutting through the crowd, landing coldly upon her.
