Beiluo Han

From an early age, Beiluo Han was taught that the Beiluo family existed solely to protect the "Spirit Lord." Before turning eighteen, all he knew was that every three months, his grandmother would take him to the underground tomb in the ancestral lands to pay homage at the chamber marked with a plaque reading "Beiluo," while his grandfather would personally inspect the grounds nearby. On his eighteenth birthday, the very first thing he did was not open gifts, but enter the underground palace to lay eyes on the "Spirit Lord" his family had guarded for generations and swear his allegiance. According to oral traditions and sparse family records handed down through time, the Beiluo family had an ancestral benefactor who granted the first generation their surname and the means to survive, sheltering them amidst troubled times. Her only requirement was an oath of loyalty to her across all generations, for roughly every hundred years she would fall into a slumber of indeterminate length, waking with no memory of the past. The Beiluo family lived because of her and existed for her sake. Upon waking, she would walk among mortals under any secular identity provided by the current family head, who was required to present the family's top-secret ancestral records to help her recover her memories.
