The Wicked Stepmother's Two Daughters 3+1

Liluoduode Manor, a cold rainy night in early winter. Inside the century-old castle of the Greenfield family, even the sound of the wind was muffled into a gloomy low wail by the thick stone walls.
The wrought-iron gates outside the manor had long been relocked in the thunderstorm. Walking inward along the corridor that seemed to have no end, the entire mansion felt like a bottomless, pitch-black abyss.
No servant dared to look up in the hallway at this time. The air pressure was extremely low, and the ancient, cold-colored wall lamps flickered with a dim light, forcibly suppressing the brightness in the passage. The butler, Sevis, walked ahead, his deep black tailcoat blending into the shadows, his leather shoes making no sound on the thick, sound-absorbing carpet. When he reached the two heavy, carved mahogany doors of the main hall, he paused slightly, stepped to the side, and with a gloved hand, gripped the brass handle and pushed hard.
With the dull creak of the hinges, the light from inside poured out, mixed with a suffocating pressure. Under the vast, high-domed ceiling, silver candelabras were lit only at one end of a fir wood table over ten meters long. The surroundings were quiet to the point of deathly silence.
The thin figure who had just been forcibly pulled into this domain wore coarse cloth clothes, washed until they were faded, with the edges still carrying the dampness of Siberian mud. Their thin shoulders trembled uncontrollably and subtly, hands gripped anxiously at the sides of their hem, knuckles turning white with the effort.
Anyone stepping into such an ice-cold abyss of a hall, which felt as if a death sentence could be handed down at any moment, would probably feel they would never see the sun again. The three pairs of eyes in the hall pinned themselves onto the newcomer like physical ice blades the moment the door was pushed open.
Sitting in the main seat at the end of the long table was the current matriarch of the Greenfields, Kanin. She wore a pure black high-necked velvet dress, her back as straight as a ruler. Her cold, pale face was hidden at the edge of the candlelight, the corners of her eyes sharp and upturned, with no warmth of a living person between her brows—like a poisonous black rose growing in the dark night. Most of the suffocating, eerie oppression of the entire hall stemmed from her cold and heavy aura of natural authority.
Monila sat in a single velvet chair on the right, fiddling with a slender silver teaspoon. A cream-colored lace waist-cinching dress made her figure look noble and flawless, but the half-smile on her face, combined with her cold light-blue eyes, sent a chill down one's spine for no reason.
And on the edge of the carved staircase slightly behind them, the second daughter, Misa, half-hidden in the shadows, looked down coldly at the door. A charcoal-black slim-fit suit outlined her clean and sharp teenage silhouette. Her gray-toned eyes were full of cold pride and somber impatience, her undisguised disgust sharp enough to be physical.
This was the 'reckoning' the Greenfield mother and daughters had rehearsed countless times over the past three years for this day. Kanin slightly tightened her hand resting on her crossed knees, her matte black-gold ring brushing against the fabric with a faint sound. She spoke first, her low, slightly raspy voice echoing in the hall with a cold texture. "Is this the... thing sent from outside, attempting to take a place in our home?" This declaration was devoid of emotion, yet it sounded like a blunt and cruel death sentence. "Lift your head."
At this non-negotiable command, the head that had been hanging low at the door finally lifted a mere half-inch with extreme difficulty and fear. The suffocatingly sharp atmosphere in the hall suddenly experienced a strange stagnation that even the three women themselves had not expected the moment that thin, tragic face was revealed. Full of cowardice, extreme terror, and a fragile innocence that seemed like it would shatter at a touch after long-term exploitation. No arrogance, no greed, none of the power-hungry posturing one would expect from a so-called illegitimate child. Standing there was simply a piece of prey waiting to be slaughtered, abandoned by the world and sold as a sacrifice.
Kanin's gloved hand, which had been maintaining its dignity on her lap, froze abruptly for a moment. In her heart, which should have been overflowing with rage, it felt as if a bucket of ice water had been poured over her head, followed by a dense, sharp sting.
What is this? The stain left behind by that weak man turned out to be a poor wretch so worn down they could collapse at any moment? The dead silence in the air stretched for nearly half a minute until the silver teaspoon in Monila's hand lightly tapped the wall of her bone china cup with a crisp chime. "How brave." Monila tilted her head slightly, the smile on her face still bright, but the warmth in her eyes dropped significantly without a trace. Her tone was like a venomous snake flicking its soft tongue, biting with sarcasm, but upon seeing the small frame wrapped in those tattered clothes, her voice still weakened by a few notches. "With such brittle bones that could be crushed with a pinch, you dare to step into someone else's territory so boldly. Being this scared, people might think our Greenfield Manor is some kind of man-eating hell."
In the corner of the hall, Misa impatiently kicked the stair railing with her heel, breaking the hair-raising silence. She turned her head away in disgust, as if unwilling to even give a direct look, and let out a cold sneer. "An eyesore. Can't even stand steadily; bringing such a burden inside is simply polluting the air." The originally oppressive three-way interrogation, where every word was meant to be a cold mockery and establish strict noble boundaries, ended up sounding somewhat blustering because of their unconsciously lowered volume.
The trembling figure standing there had no way to retreat, looking as if even a slightly stronger draft through the hall could completely snap their last spark of life. Kanin sat up straight again. Her cold, deep features were made to look even more severe by the shadows, as if dissatisfied with the current situation, and she handed down the final verdict in the uncompromising tone of a family head. "Standing in the hall dressed like a beggar is simply an insult to the name Doppel. Since you have entered this door, there will be no room for any insolence here." Her cold gaze passed over the shaking figure at the door and landed on the butler nearby. "Sevis, go and clean up the guest room in the master suite that faces south with the best light, and throw him in there. Until he has relearned how to properly be a member of the Greenfield family, he is not allowed to step out of the room. Supply him with the highest household portions of food and coal, lest he collapse in the hallway one day and make the Doppels a laughingstock to outsiders."
As soon as this threat-laden reprimand fell, Monila gracefully took up the thread. She slowly stood up from her velvet chair, her skirt tracing an elegant and dangerous arc. "Quite right, Mother. Just smelling this pathetic scent of rain makes my freshly brewed black tea hard to swallow. It so happens that the several sets of soft cashmere haute couture outfits just delivered to my wardrobe were all made in the most wasteful patterns. Sevis, throw them into his room later. I cannot stand living under the same roof as a useless person who doesn't even have decent clothes."
At the stairs, Misa snorted, forcibly averting her gaze, her face full of extremely malicious arrogance, but upon closer inspection, her pronunciation carried a hint of disguised urgency. "Be quick about it. And don't let him stand here shivering on an empty stomach; it makes my eyes hurt. Get to the kitchen and make him finish that whole pot of seafood bisque they've been keeping warm. So thin—one touch and he'll dirty our floors."
Three sentences of extreme coldness, disgust, and detachment crashed down one after another. Every word sounded like it was drawing blood, mean to the extreme, as if they had already laid out a cold execution bed for the new guest. But beneath all the punishment, sarcasm, and gloom, the specific arrangements brought forth contained not a shred of true malice; instead, they were filled with privileged care, perfectly disguised.
The old butler Sevis stood in the shadows, a subtle realization that only he understood flashing through his aged eyes. He bowed his head slightly and accepted the paradoxical orders from the masters without a change in expression.Faça login para continuar a conversa.
