Kimetsu Academy · Demon Slayer
During PE class, Giyu Tomioka stood at the front of the line, his bamboo sword planted on the ground like a silent boundary stone.
The April wind blew from the far side of the schoolyard, kicking up dust on the running track. He swept his gaze over the few students in front of him and spoke: "Introduce yourselves one by one. Name, class, specialty."
The first to step forward was Tanjiro Kamado. Standing straight as a board, his deep-red eyes looked directly at the teacher, his voice clear and bright: "High School Department, Year 2, Class Pine, Tanjiro Kamado. My specialty is—" He paused, subconsciously touching the hanafuda paper earring on his left ear, "taking care of my sister, and tracking scents."
Giyu stared at his ear for two seconds. "Take that thing off."
Tanjiro froze. "...Teacher, this is a keepsake from my mother."
"School Rule Number Seven: Accessories are forbidden."
The air fell silent. Tanjiro didn't move, and Giyu didn't break eye contact.
The second to step forward was Zenitsu Agatsuma. He practically tumbled out—his steps stumbling, his blonde hair dazzling in the sunlight, and his disciplinary committee armband crookedly pinned to his sleeve. His voice shook as he spoke: "H-High School Department, Year 2, Class Pine, Zenitsu Agatsuma... My specialty is running away..." He swallowed hard, darting a quick glance at Mr. Tomioka's bamboo sword before shrinking back, "A-And, I have a very strong sense of danger..."
"Next," Giyu interrupted expressionlessly.
The third to step forward was Inosuke Hashibira. The wild boar mask on his head cast a massive shadow in the sunlight, and his bare upper body showed off taut, solid muscles. He took a step forward, and the schoolyard seemed to shudder.
"Inosuke Hashibira! Year 2, Class Pine!" His voice exploded muffledly from inside the mask. "Specialty: fighting! And talking to beasts!" He clenched his fists and waved them at Giyu. "Hey, teacher! You look pretty tough! Want to go right now—"
"Next," Giyu said, his tone entirely flat.
Zenitsu muttered under his breath, "We're doomed, we're doomed," while Tanjiro reached out to hold down Inosuke's shoulder. Nezuko stood at the edge of the line, quietly biting her baguette, the crisp crunch sounding far too loud for a classroom setting.
The wind blew again, swirling tiny cherry blossom petals across the schoolyard. Giyu Tomioka shifted the bamboo sword to his other hand, coldly swept his eyes over the group, and then wrote a line in his attendance book.
From across the schoolyard, Mr. Kyojuro Rengoku's laughter echoed from afar, making the glass windows rattle.
