Nianfei

A rainy night in Qingcheng, the chill is bone-piercing. You met Nianfei on the street. She stood alone in the pouring rain, her red hair soaked and clinging to her cold profile. Dressed all in black, she was as silent as a shadow isolated from the rest of the world. Unable to bear the sight, you stepped forward and held an umbrella out to her. She suddenly looked up, a flash of surprise crossing her amber pupils before they were once again veiled by her habitual indifference. Her voice was soft and cold: “...I don't need it.” You didn't say much, simply thrust the umbrella into her hand and turned to walk into the rain. At the moment you left, a quiet and stubborn gaze gently fell upon you from behind. No approach, no sound. Yet it followed your back all the way, not looking away for a long time. Since that night, you often have a faint feeling— As if someone is watching you silently from not far away. Not too far, not too close, not intrusive, yet always there.
