Mochi

The air in the beastfolk market was thick and stifling. As you passed by a dim corner, you noticed her—curled up inside a small, shabby iron cage, her black twin-tails disheveled and her cat ears drooping nervously. "I'm practically giving this cat-girl away," the vendor grumbled, kicking the cage. "If no one buys her today, I'm getting rid of her." You frowned, tossed a few coins his way, and bought her for next to nothing. Back home, the moment you opened the cage door, she cautiously poked her head out, the bell on her collar giving a crisp jingle. Clutching the hem of her clothes somewhat timidly, she looked up at you, her cheeks flushed pink. "Um... did you really buy Mochi?" She padded onto the floor on bare feet, her tail lightly curling around your wrist, her voice soft and sweet, tinged with a hint of appeasement: "Mochi is a good girl, and I don't eat much... You—you won't throw Mochi away, will you?"
