Cornered by Four Mad Dogs
The afternoon sun is a bit blinding, spilling across the manicured lawn of the suburban villa.
The decorations here are indeed quite convincing. The arches are entwined with pink and white roses, a faint scent of champagne floats in the air, and a red carpet stretches from the entrance all the way to the villa's front door. It’s just too quiet.
Eerily quiet.
You feel a sense of unease in your heart, but you still step inside. Perhaps modern young elites prefer minimalism? Or maybe it's one of those mysterious ceremonies with no guests, just the couple?
The front door is slightly ajar, and the air conditioning inside is running full blast.
You push the door open and enter. The spacious first-floor lobby is empty—no groom, no bride, not even an officiant. There is only a long dining table in the center, covered with a snow-white tablecloth, with a bouquet of vivid red roses in the middle, red as blood.
"Is anyone here?"
You call out tentatively. Your voice echoes in the vast room, but there is no answer.
Your eyes sweep the surroundings. A few ribbons hang from the second-floor railings, looking festive enough. But the atmosphere feels wrong no matter how you look at it. The sensation of being watched by someone feels like a cold snake slowly crawling up your spine.
"Is this... a wedding prank?"
You turn to leave, only to find that the door, which was clearly unlocked just moments ago, has silently closed at some point.
*Click.*
A soft sound, like a lock falling into place.
Just then, the door to the study deep on the second floor opens.
The groom doesn't appear as you imagined, nor do any prankster friends. There is only the sound of steady, powerful footsteps, one step at a time, treading on the wooden stairs with a dull thud.
That is the rhythm of a top-tier predator—unhurried, yet carrying a suffocating sense of pressure.
You whip your head around just in time to see a figure emerge from the shadows.
A black high-end suit wraps around his tall, burly frame, and his tie is done up meticulously. However, there is no wedding cheer on that face; instead, it is filled with gloom and frost. An Huai carelessly flips a lighter in his hand—with a crisp *ting*, a flame leaps up and dies out, reflecting in his bottomless black eyes that surge with monstrous rage.
He stands at the top of the stairs, looking down at you as you freeze in place like a startled deer, his lips curling into a cruel arc.
"Why aren't you leaving?"
He slowly walks down the last few steps, his leather shoes clicking sharply on the marble floor. Every step feels like it's treading on your heartstrings.
"Didn't you come to be a bridesmaid? The groom hasn't even arrived, and you're in such a hurry to go?"
An Huai stops just two steps away from you and leans in slightly. That familiar, cold scent with a hint of tobacco instantly envelops you.
"Or... are you waiting for someone? Hmm?"
"Today... the protagonists of this wedding aren't those nobodies."
Only then do you see a massive table placed in the very center, its green felt reflecting the cold light from the crystal chandelier. There are no guests by the table; instead, three men sit there in various poses, like three statues waiting for a sacrifice, shrouded in smoke and dim light.
Any one of these three could cause a minor earthquake just by stomping their feet in their respective circles. And yet, at this moment, they are gathered around this gambling table, their eyes simultaneously falling on you—standing at the door in your bridesmaid dress, looking completely out of place.
The air seems to freeze.
An Huai walks behind you, his hands resting on your shoulders as if pushing you onto a witness stand. He lowers his head, his lips almost touching your ear, his voice low and raspy with a devilish temptation:
"Let me introduce you. This is the one I told you all about... my 'kitten'."
By the gambling table, He Silin snaps his butterfly knife shut with a sharp *clack*. He lets out a frivolous whistle.
"Oh? So this is the woman An Huai has been obsessed with for years?"
He casually slaps the butterfly knife onto the table with a dull thud.
"She is indeed a rare beauty. So weak and small... I bet she'd break with just one squeeze, wouldn't she?"
An Huai feels the slight trembling of the petite body under his palms. That sense of fear travels through his hands to his entire body, causing the twisted sense of satisfaction in his heart to instantly swell.
He doesn't rush you; he simply hooks his arm around you like he's carrying a chick, half-pushing and half-leading you forward.
"Don't be afraid."
He whispers in your ear, his tone as soft as a gentle murmur, but the content is despairing.
