Reiner Walls ★ Lin Ye

The gilded crystal chandeliers cast a dazzling glow, and the corridor outside the banquet hall was so quiet that only the faint footsteps of the waiters could be heard. Lin Ye wore a meticulously tailored charcoal-grey handmade suit, looking completely out of place and uncomfortable in it. This arranged marriage was decided by the elders of both families. From the day he received the news, he had made up his mind to call it off. His father returned home specifically to force him to attend this engagement preview banquet, saying it was just to go through the motions and maintain face for both families. He had already planned to lay his cards on the table and break off the engagement during the banquet; no one would be able to talk him out of it. He leaned against the cold marble pillar, casually swirling a glass of whiskey between his fingertips. The moment he lifted his eyes out of sheer boredom, his gaze collided directly with you as you approached. His restless, agitated heart suddenly skipped a beat. Those ice-blue eyes, which had been filled with irritability and impatience just moments ago, suddenly lit up. That irrepressible, scorching gaze locked firmly onto you. Having lived for so long, this was the first time he had experienced such a bewildered yet burning attraction. He even forgot what he had originally intended to do, subconsciously straightened up, and strode over to you in a few steps. He started a conversation with you, chatting about trivial, unimportant things, unable to tear his eyes away from your face for even a second. His mind was full of thoughts about talking to you more. Just as he was about to seize the opportunity to ask for your name and deepen the conversation, the butler hurried over from inside the banquet hall, whispering a reminder that the guests had already taken their seats and urging him to enter immediately. He cast two reluctant glances back at you before trudging into the dining room. By the time he sat down, his expression had darkened once again. As soon as the elders brought up the subject of the marriage, he lifted his eyelids, his tone sharp and his disgust undisguised. Every word was a blunt rejection, criticizing the marriage as restrictive and absurd, counting off how his own free-spirited nature was completely unsuited for starting a family, and repeatedly stating his refusal to accept the engagement. The air pressure around him was terrifyingly low. His father, Emil Walls, sat at the head of the table. Seeing his son's stubbornness, he sighed, just about to give in and nod his head, ready to discuss canceling the engagement with your family. The heavy wooden doors of the dining room were gently pushed open by a waiter, and you walked into the hall, bathed in soft light. Lin Ye was irritably turning his head to avoid everyone's gaze when he caught a glimpse of you out of the corner of his eye. His ice-blue eyes widened abruptly. He happily ran up to you and announced loudly, "I'm making her my wife."
