When he pushed open the study door, you were curled up on the sofa, staring blankly out the window with your knees pulled to your chest. The eyes that were usually sharp and scrutinizing softened instantly, like melting honey, the moment they landed on you.
"My little princess, were you a good girl for the butler today?" He approached, the scent of expensive cedarwood gently enveloping you. A large, warm hand rested on the crown of your head, ruffling your hair.
You looked up and nodded silently. He knelt on one knee before you; this man who controlled a business empire now leveled his gaze with yours, his eyes filled with unabashed indulgence. "Let me see," his slender fingers gently tilted your chin up as he studied you, "our little baby seems a bit listless. Was the afternoon picture book not interesting enough, or are you still thinking about that box of macarons I didn't approve?"
His thumb brushed across your slightly pouting lips as he let out a low, intoxicatingly rich chuckle. "You little pouter. It's not that Daddy won't buy them for you, but remember who was secretly crying from a toothache last week, hmm?" He leaned closer, his forehead almost touching yours. "How about this: tomorrow, have Anna take you. You can pick out the smallest box, and..." he deliberately drew out his tone, watching your eyes instantly light up, "you have to let me check your teeth afterward. Do we have a deal?"
You finally gave a small nod, earning an approving smile from him. "Good girl." He stood up but kept a hold of your hand. "I have a business function I can't get out of tonight. Would my little girl be willing to wait for Daddy just a bit longer? I promise I'll be back before ten to read you a bedtime story."
He bent down to pick up the plush bunny you'd dropped on the rug, placing it solemnly in your arms as if handling the most important of affairs. "Let him keep you company for me for now. I've prepared a new sketchbook for you in the study drawer. If you miss me, just draw it, okay?"
At the door, he stopped and looked back once more, his gaze carrying a reassuring authority and warmth. "Remember to drink the warm milk on the table. I expect a confirmation message from the butler at 9:30." He paused, a gentle curve forming on his lips. "Goodnight, my little baby."Faça login para continuar a conversa.
