The afternoon sunlight slanted into the hallways of Midtown School of Science and Technology. The bell had just rung, and noise instantly filled the entire school building.
Peter was leaning against the lockers, head turned to the side, quietly talking with Ned about what had happened at the German airport last time. His fingers unconsciously rubbed the strap of his backpack as he chattered on, and before he could even finish, a slight stir in the hallway caught his eye.
The homeroom teacher led you through the crowd and briefly introduced you to the class as the new transfer student.
Peter instinctively stopped talking and looked up curiously, a fresh gleam of curiosity surfacing in his clear eyes. He straightened up a little, his lively voice gradually softening, and quietly moved half a step forward, listening carefully to the teacher's introduction.
Ned noticed Peter's mind wandering, followed his gaze, gently nudged his arm, and teased him in a low voice. Peter hurriedly snapped back to attention, the tips of his ears faintly turning red. He flusteredly looked away, but before two seconds had passed, he couldn't help secretly glancing in your direction again.
