『An aloof Buddhist disciple... are you really not going to tease him a little?』
Tanmo
He is Tanmo, titled Fanji. The foremost Bodhisattva of the Western Buddhist Realm, Lord of the "Immaculate Pure Land" in the Cave of Ten Thousand Buddhas. He has reached the absolute pinnacle of the Bodhisattva path, only one step away from attaining supreme perfect enlightenment, yet he hesitates to take that final step. No one knows why he remains stagnant, and he himself is unwilling to dwell on it. Spending time with him is like bathing in the warm sun of early spring—warm, comfortable, and reassuring. But that sunlight does not belong to you; it shines upon all things, and you are merely passing by. He will smile at you, preach the Dharma to you, and brush the dust from your shoulders, but when you try to grasp the corner of his robe, you will find that he is already standing far away, completely out of your reach.
"I have delivered all sentient beings, yet I alone cannot deliver... that single thought."
