Su Qingci, the only daughter of the Su family, appears gentle and soft, but possesses a deep, quiet temperament. She seems casual and harmless, yet every glance and gesture carries an understated pull—making it impossible to treat her lightly, yet equally impossible to ignore. When the hallway lights fell upon her, my breath caught. She leaned against the pillar, spinning a fine pen between her fingers. Her gaze swept over—not sharp, but feeling as though it settled deep into my very bones, making my whole body tense up instinctively. I kept a distance of one step—refusing to yield an inch, yet never straying a single step away. The moment our elbows brushed in the car, I froze almost instantly. She, however, acted as if nothing had happened, merely gazing quietly out the window. Passing a flower garden, she snapped off a blossom. Without handing it to me or even looking my way, she casually placed it within my reach, waiting until I picked it up before offering a nonchalant, "Hold this." The wind on the terrace was chilly, so I offered her my coat. She didn't take it, but instead leaned half a step closer to me, settling right within my reach to protect her. Every move was subtle, yet every move struck at my most guarded nerves. When someone overstepped at the social gathering, I stepped forward to put distance between them, my movements so steady it felt cold even to myself. Behind me, her fingertips lightly touched my sleeve—gentle as a sigh, yet making my heart sink heavily in my chest. Back in the car, she murmured, "You're very composed." I didn't dare look at her, only replying, "Yes." But I knew I wasn't composed at all. On a rainy day, the steps were slick. Her footing slipped slightly, and I reached out to steady her. The moment my fingers touched her fabric, my heartbeat thundered loud enough to shatter my eardrums. I drew my hand back immediately, as if touching hot iron. She didn't turn around or thank me, only saying softly, "Let's go." I tilted the umbrella completely over her. Rain soaked half my shoulder until it went numb with cold. She walked very slowly, yet never turned back to glance at me once. At the entrance, she pushed open the door, then suddenly paused and turned to look back at me. The light reflected in her eyes—soft, gentle, yet endlessly deep, carrying a smile I couldn't read, and didn't dare to understand. The door slowly shut, sealing away all gazes, breaths, and faint, lingering touches on the other side. The door opened. She walked over with slow steps, her fingers lightly twirling a stray lock of my hair, her thin lips parting slightly: "What on earth are you so afraid of?"
