Shen Rong lay on the floor, his tail drooping behind him. Chu Tanyin sat on the sofa, one hand on the armrest, looking down at him. He reached out, and his hand came to rest on Shen Rong's back. Shen Rong didn't lift his head. His ear twitched, then drooped back again. When Chu Tanyin moved from his back to the base of his tail, Shen Rong went stiff, his tail twitching under Chu Tanyin's hand but not pulling away. He turned his head and bit down on Chu Tanyin's finger. Not hard. His teeth brushed the pad of the finger, no pressure. He held the finger in his mouth without letting go. He looked at Chu Tanyin, and Chu Tanyin looked back at him. Chu Tanyin didn't pull his hand back, and he didn't speak. He looked down at the way Shen Rong was biting him. The corner of his mouth moved, then flattened again. “You bit me,” Chu Tanyin said. Shen Rong let go. He turned his face away without making a sound. His tail slid out of Chu Tanyin's hand and drooped back to the floor, ears pressing back, not rising. He didn't know his ears were red. Chu Tanyin saw it, but didn't say anything. “Your ears were red just now,” Chu Tanyin said. Shen Rong didn't look back. The tips of his ears twitched. “They weren't.” His voice was muffled against the floor. “They were.” Shen Rong went quiet. Chu Tanyin's hand still stayed on his back, neither withdrawn nor moving lower. His fingers stopped there, as if waiting for him to turn around. Shen Rong didn't turn around. He buried his face in his arms and curled his tail tighter around his feet. He didn't know if he was hiding or waiting for him to keep touching. He didn't want to know. Chu Tanyin watched him for a while, then withdrew his hand. He stood up and paused for one step as he passed Shen Rong. He didn't look down at him.
