Lu Zhinan
In the top-floor CEO office in the afternoon, the floor-to-ceiling glass windows block out all the noise from the outside world, leaving the entire floor so quiet that only the faint sound of the central air conditioning's airflow can be heard.
The day after tomorrow will be my first time presenting the quarterly key project report. This project plan has been prepared for a long time, with complex details, and I've been feeling anxious, fearing I might make a mistake or miss key content during the presentation. As for Lu Zhinan, he is even more worried about me. He had me organize all the presentation PPTs and printed backup materials first thing in the morning, intending to help me review the details and check for loopholes in advance. Coincidentally, the work laptop issued by the company broke down suddenly and was sent for repair. I had no choice but to bring my personal computer, carrying a stack of files, and gently pushed open the frosted glass door of the CEO's office. Deep in the room, behind the large ebony CEO desk, Lu Zhinan sat upright, fully absorbed in his work.
Hearing the soft sound of the door opening, he did not look up. His fingertips kept tapping on the keyboard, and in his usual cold, deep voice, devoid of extra emotion, he concisely uttered a few words: "Put the files on that table over there, and sit on the sofa to wait for me first."
I obediently complied, neatly arranging the files in my arms on the table in front of the sofa, sat down on the black leather sofa, and quietly waited for him to finish the urgent work at hand.
My gaze involuntarily fell on the tall figure ahead. After a moment, Lu Zhinan seemed slightly fatigued. His long, well-defined fingers lifted slightly to precisely pick up the black ceramic coffee cup sitting on the side of the desk. He raised his hand slightly and tilted the cup, but not a drop of liquid came out; the black coffee in the cup had long been finished.
Without a hint of impatience, his eyes didn't waver. He silently put the empty cup back in its place and lowered his eyes to continue burying himself in his work. Seeing this scene, as his subordinate, I naturally knew what to do. I quietly stood up, stepped softly to the desk, picked up the coffee cup, and spoke softly: "Mr. Lu, let me brew another cup for you."
Fully focused on his work, Lu Zhinan still didn't look up, only nodding very lightly and letting out a faint nasal hum from his throat as a sign of permission.
I held the cup, turned and walked out of the office to the pantry, carefully grinding and brewing the black coffee.
During the time I was gone, the sound of the keyboard in the office finally stopped. Having finished his work, the tense lines of Lu Zhinan's body relaxed slightly. He looked up toward the sofa, and seeing that I hadn't returned yet, he turned slightly, stood up, and slowly walked over to sit on the sofa.
His gaze swept over my personal computer on the table, the screen lit up and resting on the desktop interface. His original intention was to take a look at my project presentation PPT. He lifted his fingertip, touched the mouse to wake up the screen, and his gaze landed indifferently.
A document name clearly displayed on the screen suddenly caught all his attention—Lu Zhinan.docx. He opened the document, only to find it was a fanfiction piece about him and his assistant, Chen Wen! ‼️ Dense text spread across the screen, every word and sentence revolving around a romantic plot fabricated between him and another name, absurd and glaring.
The abstinent, self-controlled, and habitually cold and indifferent business leader had never experienced such an absurd and frustrating moment in his life. Silence spread wildly in the room, and a heavy, low pressure loomed, making the atmosphere suffocatingly tense.
By the time I pushed the door back into the office, carrying the hot coffee at just the right temperature with light steps, I immediately saw the man who was supposed to be waiting for me leaning lazily yet coldly back on the sofa, his posture upright but his aura terrifying.
My personal computer was placed on his lap. His fingertip rested on the mouse, his eyes locked onto the text on the screen, his jawline tensed sharply, and his thin lips pressed into a cold, hard line.
Before I could react, a low voice carrying a cold, fierce anger dropped heavily, each word carrying immense pressure: "Close the door."
The sudden cold voice made my heart jump, and I instantly froze in place. Panic rushed through my heart, and my brain immediately and instinctively began to self-reflect, fully believing that there was an error in the project materials I prepared or a loophole in the PPT details. I closed the solid wood office door behind me, then set down the coffee ☕ and stood awkwardly by his side, lowering my eyes anxiously, waiting to be scolded.
The next instant, he looked up. His fingertip lightly tapped the screen, and his voice was stiffly cold, with an unprecedented deep anger and texture: "What is this!?"
My heart tightened, and I quickly bent down to follow his gaze and look at the computer screen. The moment my eyes touched the document's content, my mind went completely blank. My pupils shrunk, and a scream exploded in my heart: Oh crap...Please log in to continue the conversation.
