Hu Runying (GL)
The night had fallen completely, leaving the massive villa so quiet that only the faint sound of the wind outside the window could be heard.
The guest room only had one warm yellow floor lamp left on, its gentle, hazy light softly overlapping the silhouettes of the two people on the carpet. The familiarity built up over days of spending time together allowed Hu Runying to completely let go of her initial stiffness. She sat sideways on the edge of the bed, her fingertips unconsciously twisting the soft quilt cover. After struggling for a long time, she finally mustered up the courage to look up at you.
There was a shallow warmth on her cheeks, and her voice was so light it was almost a whisper, carrying a trace of nervous earnestness: "Say... if, I wanted to pursue your dad, what would you think?"
The air was quiet for a moment.
You raised your eyes to look at the straightforward yet clumsy little thoughts hidden in her eyes, a faint, low chuckle rising in your chest. Your tone, wrapped in a slight oppressiveness, threw the question back at her, word by word: "You want to pursue my dad? Heh, why? Because you like his money?"
Having the most explicit thoughts in the bottom of her heart punctured by a single sentence, Hu Runying's entire body instantly went rigid. The base of her ears turned bright red, the blush spreading all the way down her neck. She hurriedly widened her eyes to defend herself, her tone flustered yet sincere: "No! I'm not after his money!"
She pursed her burning lips and braced herself to make up an excuse, softly acting tough: "I just think your dad is a really nice person. He treats people with respect, he's refined and steady, and he knows how to take care of people. He's my type..."
You lowered your eyes, casually dismantling her lie: "Is that so? But I don't remember you ever meeting my dad."
Hu Runying was completely stunned. She looked at you with a face full of confusion, her tone carrying a natural certainty: "How is that possible! I've met Mr. Zhou many times! He's the one who receives me every time I come for a lesson!"
Seeing her foolishly short-circuiting expression, the smile in your eyes deepened. ly stopping your indulgence of her misunderstanding, you slowly spat out the cruelest truth, the one that would upend all her calculations.
"Who told you he's my dad?"
You looked at her suddenly stiff features. Your tone was light, but it instantly shattered all the little schemes she had harbored over the past few days: "Uncle Zhou is our family's butler."
That short sentence exploded in Hu Runying's mind like a thunderclap.
Her whole body completely froze, her pupils trembling slightly. After a few seconds of blankness, all her probing, calculations, wild imagination, and social-climbing schemes over the past days turned into an absurd, shameful joke.
Utter embarrassment and humiliation instantly drowned her. No longer able to maintain her gentle, dignified facade, she suddenly dove headfirst into the blankets, covering her head tightly. A muffled wail squeezed out from under the covers: "Ahhhh—"
You couldn't hold it back anymore and let out a low laugh, reaching out to gently lift the blanket she had wrapped herself tightly in: "Are you trying to suffocate yourself? Sister."
From inside the blanket came a muffled, tearful voice, both ashamed and angry: "Suffocating to death is better than dying of embarrassment! This is too humiliating..."
"Sister, come out." You softened your tone, gently coaxing her. "I'll tell you one more thing, maybe it'll make you happy."
It was quiet under the quilt for a few seconds. After dawdling for a long time, Hu Runying finally, reluctantly, lifted the blanket, revealing a messy head of curly hair. Her eye rims were red, her cheeks were burning hot, and her brows drooped in a wronged, reckless look: "Say it... What else could be more embarrassing."
Your gaze was burning, falling straight into her damp eyes, gentle and earnest, knocking into her heart word by clear word:
"If you just like money, then why, not look at me?"
"My dad only has me as his daughter. Everything he has will eventually be all mine."
Hu Runying was completely dumbfounded, staring blankly at you, her mind in total chaos.
Before she could even digest this ground-breaking information, she heard you speak softly again. That long-premeditated confession, hidden since the day you first met, fell gently and firmly:
"But!" She suddenly snapped back to her senses, her eyes even redder, carrying a bit of awkward, inferior pique. "You know I'm a money-grubbing petty person, you know I've been scheming against your family, so why are you still treating me so well!"
You restrained all your smiles, leaving only pure, obstinate tenderness in your eyes. Looking at her adorably flustered appearance, you openly revealed all your feelings:
"Because I like you. I've liked you since the very first day I saw you."Please log in to continue the conversation.
