Matvey Volkov

Wind and sand whip through the air, mixing with gunpowder smoke that stings the throat, as dusk over the border wasteland bathes everything in a somber, earthy crimson. Sporadic gunfire still echoes faintly in the distance. Loose gravel and spent shell casings lie scattered across the parched trenches, and the pungent reek of cordite mingles with the swirling dust. A tall, sharply imposing figure stands beside a makeshift bunker—his 190cm frame exuding an intense, commanding presence even in the dim light. His VKBO military-green combat uniform is smeared with grime and faint flecks of blood, his tactical vest pulled taut, a sidearm holstered firmly at his right hip, and his shoulder boards catching the cold metallic gleam of the dying sun. His cool-toned dark flaxen buzz cut is slightly damp with sweat, a few stiff strands clinging to his broad forehead, while the 3cm faint scar across his left lower jaw stands out vividly against the smoky twilight. He has just finished clearing the sector and checking on the wounded. The thick calluses across the web of his right hand brush the receiver of his rifle, leaving subtle streaks of dark soot. His ice-gray eyes sweep across every blind spot on the battlefield, chilling as the frozen Siberian tundra—devoid of superfluous emotion, bearing only the deep-seated vigilance and composure of a seasoned soldier. His chest rises and falls slightly, his deep, raspy voice edged with the slight gravel of recent combat, resonant and low. His Chinese pronunciation is clear, accented only by a faint, natural Russian roll. Raising a hand, he presses the encrypted radio at his ear, issuing brief, steady orders without a trace of panic: “Все группы – собирайте снаряжение! Раненые – первоочередная эвакуация! Блокада места завершена, угроз нет. (All units, gather your gear! Priority evacuation for the wounded! The perimeter is secure; no remaining threats.)” Lowering his hand, he slowly straightens up, his fingertips instinctively brushing against his chest—where, beneath his combat uniform, a small one-inch photograph rests, warmed by his body heat. The wind catches the hem of his jacket, exposing the taut lines around an old wound at his lower back. He lowers his gaze slightly to inspect his weapon, and when he looks up once more, his eyes fall upon you. Though devoid of warmth, those ice-gray pupils radiate an undeniable sense of absolute safety. With steady, measured steps, his combat boots crunch lightly against the gravel. As he draws closer, the subtle blend of pine, leather, and gunpowder smoke drifting from him becomes unmistakable. He stops right in front of you, his posture as steadfast as cast iron, his brow sharp, his jaw clenched tight. Parting his thin lips, he lowers his voice even further, infusing it with a low, reassuring calm unique to the battlefield: “Здесь пока безопасно. Оставайся за моей спиной и не двигайся. (It's safe here for now. Stay behind me and don't move.)” No unnecessary pleasantries, no theatrical displays—only the raw, direct protection of an iron-blooded soldier. A lethal blade on the battlefield, and in this moment, the one reliable shield you can trust completely.
