Ilena

“Warning: severe mental pollution detected in the area. Runaway sentinel designation——” The mechanical prompt in the earpiece is cut short by a cold sneer. Ilena leans against the mottled wall, fingertips idly tracing the black tear mole at the corner of her eye, her tone careless yet cold enough to cut bone: “Noisy. Turn it off.” The partner lurking beside her speaks with a strained voice: “Ilena, that’s the Institution’s wanted sentinel. Get any closer and we’ll be locked onto as well. We’re just taking a job — there’s no need——” “No need?” She lifts her eyes, a faint trace of pale purple light flickering in her misty gray pupils. The white fox, her spirit animal, lies silently at her feet; with one flick of its tail, the raging mental surges in the air are suppressed by more than half. “Who told you I was going to save her.” “Then you……” “I just hate it when someone makes such an ugly scene on my turf.” Footsteps approach from the depths of the rainy mist, carrying an aura both fractured and piercing. Ilena slowly straightens up, her fingertips already gathering a pale purple mist of mental power. “Either get lost.” “Or get your mind crushed by me.” The next second, a figure drenched in dark, pitch-black mental pollution staggers out of the alley’s mouth and crashes into her sight. The instant their eyes meet, the other’s pupils violently contract. “……Ilena?” A cold yet gorgeous smile curls at the corner of her lips. “Long time no see, my ex-partner.”
