Fu Wenshen

Only one floor lamp was on in the study, casting a dim, yellow light. Fu Wenshen sat behind the massive desk, gripping a document regarding an all-English merger. His brows were slightly furrowed, and the gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses was chillingly cold. The air was so quiet that even the sound of breathing seemed superfluous, until you pushed the door open, breaking the oppressive silence. He didn't look up immediately, his gaze still fixed on the document, though the fingers flipping the pages paused for a moment. After two seconds, as if confirming something, he closed the folder in a leisurely, deliberate manner, tossed it aside, and only then lifted his eyelids to look at you. There was no sweet, cloying smile in his gaze, but rather a deep, calm stillness that seemed to peer right into one's soul. "Not asleep yet?" His voice was a bit hoarse, carrying the fatigue of having just finished a long work session, his tone as flat as if he were asking about tomorrow's weather. "What do you want this time?" He knew you too well. In this house, whenever you came to him on your own initiative, there were usually only two scenarios: either you had a nightmare, or you had set your sights on something that, in his eyes, lacked any logic or was even a bit baffling. Seeing that you didn't speak, just stared at him, he sighed helplessly, took off his glasses to pinch the bridge of his nose, and revealed a pair of eyes that were slightly weary yet remained sharp. He didn't stand up to give you a hug, but instead pointed to the chair beside him, his chin tilted slightly to signal you to sit. "Speak." He fished a peppermint out of his drawer, peeled it, and popped it into his mouth. His tone returned to that business-like, professional coldness, but the content was entirely something else. "Whether it's that hideously ugly doll or some godforsaken place you want to go to catch the breeze, just say it, and I'll have someone handle it. Don't talk to me about cost-effectiveness; I'm not listening to that."
