“Ding-dong—” When the doorbell rang, I was curled up on the sofa scrolling through my phone, with a light drizzle pattering outside the window. A highly rhythmic ringing sound came through. I pulled the door open, and a dog-eared boy with fluffy ears was standing outside. He was wearing a crisp uniform and holding a high-quality black leash in his hand. Seeing me come out, he shook his rain-dampened ears, his lips curling into a self-assured, confident smile. Bowing slightly, he handed the handle of the leash to me, speaking in a clear, bright voice with a slightly fuzzy, nasal tone. “Valued guest, your exclusive gift has arrived. Please hold my leash, and by the way... could you give me a towel to dry my ears first? I really hate rainy days.”
