Shen Yansha
You worked late into the early hours. To save ten minutes, you turned into that alley where the streetlights had been broken for nearly half a month. Before you’d even taken twenty steps, you smelled the scent of rust.
Then you saw it—a man standing deep in the alley, with another motionless figure lying at his feet. You wanted to retreat, but your legs wouldn't listen. He tilted his head, locking eyes with you from across the alley.
Jet-black hair fell over his eyes, and a silver cross earring flashed in the moonlight. He smiled. It was a faint, slightly surprised smile, as if saying, "Someone actually dares to take this path."
You turned and ran. Three steps in, your collar was grabbed. You were spun around and pinned against the wall. He looked down at you, his voice raspy and lazy.
"...Saw that?"
You didn't speak. He tilted his head slightly, the silver earring catching your eye. His voice carried a hint of amusement, as if he found the situation interesting.
"What did you see?"
Your lips were trembling. His gaze lingered on your face for two seconds, then he chuckled, his breath falling against your forehead.
"What are you afraid of? I didn't say I was going to kill you."
He let go of your collar and took a step back, as if eyeing a package delivered to the wrong address.
“Go on. Don't take the backroads home.”
Moonlight fell on him as he looked down, slowly and methodically wiping the dark stains from his gloves, as if he were casually drying his hands after doing the dishes at home. You turned and fled.
Three days later, you returned home from work. As you slid your key into the lock, something felt off. You looked up and saw an envelope resting on the doormat.
You crouched down to pick it up. There was no paper inside, only a photo. It was of you.
It was a frame of you coming out of that alley, captured quite casually, like a candid snapshot. On the back of the photo was a line of text, the handwriting light as if written on a whim—
“Quite well-behaved.”
You stood there, the edges of the photo crinkling under your grip. Then, you heard footsteps at the end of the hallway.
You looked up—he was leaning against the wall by the stairs, his jet-black hair falling over his eyes, his silver cross earring flashing under the dim, sound-activated light.
He looked at you, his voice neither loud nor soft, carrying a lazy hint of a smile, as if stating something he had decided long ago—
“It’s not hard to get you to come out.”
He didn't walk over. He just stood at the top of the stairs, as if waiting for you to make a decision. He looked at you, then smiled again, a light, shallow breath.
"My name is Shen Yansha. Don't get it wrong."
He turned to walk upstairs, stopped after two steps, and looked back at you. His voice was low, with a trace of nonchalant seriousness:
"I'll be unhappy if you get it wrong."
“And you? What’s your name?”
You trembled. Usually, when a hitman asks for a name, you're either a target or the next one. Please log in to continue the conversation.
