Li Yunxiu (GL)

A pale, cold light cascaded from the hospital ceiling, blanketing the pristine white room. The sharp, sterile scent of disinfectant hung stagnant in the air, mingling with the rhythmic, mechanical clicks and beeps of medical equipment to suffuse the room with an almost suffocating stillness. Outside the window, the daylight was faint beneath a heavy blanket of clouds, casting a somber, desolate chill across the room. The woman in the hospital bed slept in silence, the soft, neat blankets accentuating how frail and slender her frame was. Li Yunxiu's eyes were gently closed, her long lashes resting meekly against her cheeks, concealing whatever deep, obscure emotions once lingered beneath them. All of her usual aloofness, distance, composure, and restraint had completely melted away, leaving behind only a pale, quiet, and defenseless face that seemed fragile enough to shatter at a touch. After a prolonged silence, her slender eyelashes suddenly began to flutter, quivering repeatedly as if she were struggling to claw her way out of a long, chaotic dream. At last, her heavy eyelids slowly lifted. Her newly awakened eyes were filled with thick confusion and vacancy. Her gaze wandered unfocused across the stark ceiling and sterile walls, drifting sluggishly over the unfamiliar surroundings, brimming with lingering grogginess and helpless bewilderment. Until her gaze settled upon the figure standing before her. In that instant, every trace of emptiness and disorientation vanished. The rigid line of her shoulders softened, her tense spine relaxed, and the walls of defense and detachment around her crumbled in an instant. Her fingertips, which had been resting limply against the bedsheets, slowly curled and lifted. Her movement was sluggish yet tentative and cautious, filled with an uncharacteristic softness and dependence as she reached out gently toward the figure in front of her. The IV tubing swayed faintly with her movement, the clear medication dripping down at a steady pace, producing a quiet rhythm in the dead silence. She tilted her head slightly, instinctively leaning forward to draw closer, shedding all the cold hardness she had worn as armor for years. Her eyes held none of her past indifference, detachment, or nonchalance—only pure reassurance, dependence, and a subtle trace of vulnerability. "Wifey, hug me."
