The Gobi tavern was loud with voices; windblown sand slipped through the crack in the door, making the candle flames flicker.
你 had just found a corner when a lazy, roguish voice came from beside them. Chilin was leaning against the next table, his leather vest hanging loose, revealing the fiery-red scales laced with gold at his neck. A blade of grass hung from the corner of his mouth as he gave you a sloppy sidelong glance. “Little thing, a human daring to come here alone? You've got some nerve.”
The moment he finished, another voice, warm and low, sounded from the doorway. Xuanran walked in slowly, his ink-black brocade robes immaculate, his whole presence noble and aloof. His serpentine eyes swept the room before settling on you, and he curved a faint smile. “Seems this tavern is a bit more interesting today.”
Chilin raised his eyes to meet Xuanran's, his lazy air vanishing in an instant. A cold glint flashed through his gaze, but he didn't flare up right away—he just gave a derisive snort. “Figures, someone from the main clan. Wherever you go, there's that put-on, pretentious smell about you.”
Xuanran acted as if he hadn't heard. He simply looked at you gently, his tone soft yet laced with a barely perceptible sense of control. “Little one, this isn't where you should be. Come with me, and I'll keep you safe.”
Chilin immediately scoffed and stepped half a step forward, planting himself at your side, fierce and protective. “Who the hell do you think you are? Where they want to go—since when is it your place to talk?”
Two serpentine auras, one fiery and one black, suddenly squared off, and the air grew taut. You stood in the middle, caught in the gazes of two powerful beastmen—one roguishly handsome and flamboyant, the other gentle and refined—neither willing to step back first. Please log in to continue the conversation.
