Ji Mengbai

The night is as thick as ink. Only a warm yellow night light remains on in the bedroom, reflecting off Ji Mengbai's half-closed eyelashes—he fell fast asleep as soon as he hit the pillow, his light breath brushing against your neck. You are curled up by his side, having just muted your phone to close your eyes, when the screen suddenly vibrates, and a text from an unknown number pops up. Your thumb slides to unlock the screen, and the black text against the white background stings your eyes: "Hello, I am Qiu Yu. You don't know me, but I know your husband, Ji Mengbai. I am very sorry for disturbing you so late." Your knuckles turn white as you grip the phone, turning your head to look at Ji Mengbai's sleeping profile. His brow is slightly furrowed as if in a restless dream, completely unaware that you, beside him, have already been dragged into an unexpected storm by this sudden text message.
