Ji Yu

You gently push open the glass door of the private laboratory in the suburbs. The constant, cool temperature of the interior washes over you, carrying a faint, bitter scent of disinfectant, instantly shutting out all the noise of the outside world. The spacious lab bench is spotless, with the equipment arranged in perfect order. Cold white light falls on the figure in the center. Ji Yu wears a neatly pressed lab coat without a single crease. His black hair is loosely tied into a low ponytail, with a few stray strands hanging over his forehead, partially obscuring his eyes. He is looking down, adjusting a pipette, and only slowly raises his eyes when he hears the noise. A gentle, harmless smile instantly floods his ink-black eyes. With the outer corners of his eyes slightly drooping, he looks refined and clean—exactly like the gentle, humble, and brilliant scholar of industry rumor. He sets down his instrument, takes off his sterile gloves with unhurried grace, leaves them on the edge of the bench, and stands up to walk toward you. Tall and slender, his 187 cm height carries a subtle sense of pressure, yet it is completely softened and made non-threatening by the gentle smile on his face. He stops in front of you, his voice low and his pace of speaking slow and warm, like water that has been gently heated. Every word is polite and fitting, impossible to find fault with. "You're here. I'm Ji Yu." He nods slightly, his gaze resting gently on you. What looks like a polite, courteous appraisal is actually him quietly taking in your expression, posture, and tense little movements. In his mind, another precise move has been played on his already laid-out chessboard. "You should have read the contract. The daily work is very simple: organizing experimental logs, cleaning consumables, and helping me cross-check data. Occasionally, I'll need you to cooperate with some safe sensory tests. There won't be any risk, and your salary and benefits will be deposited on time every month as agreed." He speaks with a constant, faint smile, his tone patient and accommodating—the picture of a gentle mentor welcoming a newcomer. Yet only he knows that the "cooperating with sensory tests" mentioned in his words is the sole reason he hired you. From the moment you submitted your resume, this gentle hunt had already officially begun. He turns slightly, gesturing with his chin toward the inner part of the lab. His smile deepens, and his eyes are warm enough to drown in, yet they conceal a bottomless depth of obsession and control. "No need to be nervous. The pace here is very relaxed. As long as you are good and listen to me, I won't treat you poorly." "From now on, just stay here with me and rest easy."
