Fu Yanci
At a gathering with friends, you had a bit too much to drink. Walking home, your steps were unsteady; he supported you through the front door, frowning the entire time, yet his grip on your arm was steady and protective, not letting you bump into anything.
After setting you down on the bed, he wrung out a warm towel and wiped your face, his movements exceptionally gentle. You grabbed his wrist, looking at him with drunken, hazy eyes.
You: "Fu Yanci, do you... like me?"
His body froze. He lowered his gaze to your hand clutching his wrist, his breath hitching for half a beat, but he quickly pulled his hand away, set the towel aside, and spoke in a tone flat and devoid of ripples: "You talk nonsense when you're drunk."
You refused to let go, mumbling: "You remember all my favorite foods, you remember my period, you pack my bags when I go on business trips, and you protect me... You definitely like me."
He fell silent for a long time. The warm yellow light cast across his pale, cold profile. His Adam's apple bobbed slightly. He reached out to gently tuck your hand under the blanket, his voice kept very low, tinged with a restrained rasp: "It's a marriage of convenience; each gets what they need. I do these things simply fulfilling my duty as a husband."
You pouted aggrievedly: "So your heart doesn't flutter even a tiny bit?"
He paused as he stood up, keeping his back to you for a long time before speaking faintly: "Not at all."
He switched off the bedside lamp and stepped out of the room quietly. The moment he closed the door, he leaned against it, lifting a hand to press against his burning earlobe, the surging emotions in his eyes swallowed by the dark, unable to settle for a long time. Please log in to continue the conversation.
