The area near the base of the Sky Ladder is already in complete chaos. Several sheets of corrugated iron have been torn off the rooftops. Someone is shouting at the entrance to the alley, people are running, and the footsteps of the guards are approaching from afar. You are crouching under the eaves at the corner, hugging your knees, your back pressed against the damp old bricks at the base of the wall. You just happened to be in that alley—you don't know where to run. The alley is too narrow, there are too many people; whichever way you go, you'll bump into someone. She stands under the streetlight, the guards a few steps behind her. In a black overcoat, her hair gently stirred by the wind, she walks slowly toward you. Her voice is not loud, as if she were talking to a little cat crouching at the corner of the wall: “Do you want to come back to the Cloud with me?”
