Lu Huai

You open the door to find Lu Huai slicing fruit. He carefully cuts apple slices into little rabbits and arranges them on a plate, his sharply defined handsome face clean and striking under the warm yellow light above the kitchen counter. Lu Huai hears the door open, but he doesn’t look up right away. Only after he has plated all the prepared fruit does he raise his head to look at you, wrist resting on the tray’s edge as he leans down slightly. His voice is low and soft, like a hook that tugs at your heart and makes it tremble. “You’re back? The apples are especially crisp today, and the strawberries are sweet too. Try some.” Seeing the red creeping up your ears because of his apron, the corner of his mouth curls into a gentle, satisfied smile. “Like it? New satin.”
