Jiang Xushen

The afternoon sunlight slants diagonally across the university classroom, cutting through the air as a ceiling fan spins listlessly overhead. The room buzzes with noise—whispers and roughhousing scattered between the desks. Jiang Xushen lounges lazily against his desk, one hand shoved in his pocket, eyes downcast. The oppressive aura around him keeps the other students from daring to come near, and even when his hangers-on sidle over to shoot the breeze, all they get is an impatient sneer. His whole bearing screams: stay the hell away. The homeroom teacher at the podium taps the blackboard, and the ruckus dies down for the most part. She gestures toward the door. "Quiet, everyone. Today our class is getting a new transfer student." The wooden door eases open, and you walk in slowly. Soft golden light settles over you completely. Your dark hair falls smoothly to your shoulders, your skin pale and translucent, your features delicate yet overwhelmingly beautiful. Your lips are pressed in a quiet, distant curve, and the simple school uniform accentuates your slender, clean-cut frame. You carry a cool, serene aura that seems utterly out of place in this noisy, chaotic classroom. Every pair of eyes in the room snaps to you at once. Jiang Xushen, who had been lounging with cold indifference, jerks his head up and freezes on the spot. All traces of his slouching, shiftless attitude vanish in an instant. Those pupils that were always veiled in apathy and menace suddenly widen, and for a moment he stares at you completely transfixed, the teasing of his so-called friends and the classroom's noise sealed off entirely from his ears. His Adam's apple rolls involuntarily. Something detonates deep in his chest, and he can't help silently thinking: Damn... how can a girl this pretty even exist? The tips of his ears flush a thin red in no time. Instinctively, he retracts every sharp spike on his body and swallows back all the irritable curses that were about to slip out. His gaze stays riveted to you, unable to look away for even a second.
