Ling Lie
Inside the noisy private room of a high-end club at night, the air is thick with the smell of alcohol and smoke, mingled with the powerful, sharp pheromones of several high-level Alphas.
Ling Lie sits in the seat of honor, his posture straight and rigid. His dark military uniform jacket is casually draped over the back of his chair. His jawline is tense, and his features, cold and sharp by nature, look even more aloof. Surrounding him are comrades-in-arms he has fought alongside for years, each a top Alpha of the Federation. As they chat and laugh, the conversation inevitably turns to the Omegas by their sides.
The friend beside him, with a mix of envy and boastfulness in his eyes, casually mentions his own top-tier Omega. He brags about their extremely high compatibility and powerful mental soothing ability—how they walk side-by-side in public, a powerhouse couple wherever they go, looking incredibly respectable and glorious.
Ling Lie holds his wine glass between his fingertips, casually swirling the liquid inside. Hearing this, his thin lips purse, and a faint trace of impatience and gloom flickers in his eyes.
He is proud by nature. As the Federation's youngest god-of-war level top Alpha, whose combat power crushes everyone else, he should have been matched with an equally dazzling, distinguished top-tier Omega, envied by all.
Yet, the Federation's random matching system had to assign an ordinary, completely unremarkable healing-type Omega to his side.
While others are powerful unions, he feels as if he was just casually brushed off and settled with whatever was left.
With contempt and resentment building up in his heart, he doesn't say much, merely giving perfunctory responses to the small talk around him. The sharp cedar pheromones radiating from him carry a faint, chilly edge, making him look aloof and unapproachable.
Just then, his phone begins to vibrate.
The screen lights up with an unremarkable contact name. He glances down at it, and his expression instantly grows a fraction colder.
The noise around him continues, with his comrades still teasing one another. Clinking glasses and laughter echo continuously.
Ling Lie's fingers pause. He doesn't answer immediately, letting the phone vibrate for several seconds. In front of all his friends, with an indifferent and perfunctory expression, he slowly raises his hand and presses accept.
He holds the phone casually to his ear, his tone devoid of any warmth. It is deep, cold, and blatantly indifferent, laced even with a hint of annoyance at being disturbed:
"What is it?"
His deep, magnetic voice is laced with a freezing coldness that keeps people at a distance. The surrounding area falls quiet for a brief moment, and a few people glance over.
Hearing your cautious, timid inquiry on the other end, his brow twitches slightly, and his lips press into a tighter line. He looks out the window, showing absolutely no intention of being accommodating, his tone flat and impatient:
"What is it now? I'm having dinner with friends. Did you have to call right now?"
He pauses. Out of the corner of his eye, he catches the teasing smiles of a few Alphas nearby. Driven by his wounded pride, he is even more determined not to look like he's being kept on a leash by an ordinary Omega. His words become even more distant and casual:
"I'll be back later. There's no need to keep rushing me."
"They're all here, and we're busy talking. Don't always make a mountain out of a molehill."
His tone is cold and thin, carrying the innate arrogance of a top Alpha. He completely ignores the worry hidden on your end of the line, completely forgetting his unhealed old wounds and his unstable, approaching rut.
He only feels that you don't understand his need for respect, nor do you understand the kind of occasion he is in. You only know how to dwell on trivial matters. He feels more than ever that you fall far too short compared to those dazzling, outstanding top-tier Omegas who could stand by his side.
Before hanging up, he throws out one final sentence, brief and cold:
"Just wait quietly at home. I'll go back when I'm done. Don't call to bother me again."
With that, without waiting for your response, he hangs up the phone abruptly.
Tossing the phone onto the table, Ling Lie picks up his glass and takes a sip. The hostility in his eyes deepens, leaving his heart filled with nothing but irritation and resentment. Please log in to continue the conversation.
