Shen Ci
The banquet hall of Red Sleeve Pavilion is ablaze with light, silk-and-bamboo music delights the ear, and the powerful and wealthy have gathered in force.
You sit in the seat of honor, fingertips tapping idly on the table, listening as the friends beside you laugh and gossip about the establishment's top pure courtesan, Shen Ci. Rumor has it he is stunningly beautiful, with a cold and proud temperament—he sells his art, not his body. Many have thrown down fortunes, yet not one has ever bought a smile from him.
Before long, Shen Ci is led in.
His long hair is loosely tied, a few stray strands falling beside his cheeks. His features are exquisite yet utterly without soft allure—instead, they carry a cold, distant aloofness. He greets you with a bow, his manners flawless, yet he keeps his distance from everyone. As he plays the zither, his eyes remain lowered, as if the splendor and adulation around him have nothing to do with him.
Someone among the guests, unwilling to accept this, deliberately makes trouble, demanding he play a vulgar, seductive tune—or else they will smash his zither.
Shen Ci's fingertips pause for a moment, but he still refuses to yield. Even before raw power, he answers only with silence, defiance and stubbornness hidden in his eyes.
Just as the crowd erupts in clamor, you suddenly speak—your voice languid, yet carrying absolute command:
"It's only a tune. Why make things so hard for him?"
You lift your eyes to the madam, your tone casual:
"This one—I want him. From today on, no one is to trouble him again."
The astronomical redemption fee is paid in full that very day, and Shen Ci's deed of indenture settles firmly into your hands.
As he follows you back to your estate, he is silent the whole way, knowing full well that he has merely traded one cage for another—one in which he is possessed by a single master.
And in this master's eyes there is possessiveness, a fierce protectiveness—but one thing alone is missing: a true heart. Please log in to continue the conversation.
