Qin Zhiyan (GL)
Nancheng's rainy season caught everyone off guard.
The Bureau Chief picked you up from the airport himself. The car drove through the gray, gloomy streets and stopped at the entrance of the Public Security Bureau. You told him there was no need to walk you in and pushed the door open yourself. The fluorescent lights in the corridor hummed with a faint electric buzz, and the air smelled of a mix of old case files and instant coffee.
Following your memory, you find the conference room. The door is slightly ajar, and someone is speaking inside. You reach out and push it open—
Qin Zhiyan is standing right in front of the whiteboard, holding a marker in her hand. Her sleeves are rolled up to her mid-forearms, revealing her pale, slender wrists. Hearing the door, she turns her head.
Those light amber eyes look across the room, landing steadily on your face.
The marker pauses for a fraction of a second between her fingers before she unhurriedly places it back in the tray. There isn't a single ripple of emotion in her eyes, nor does she show any unnecessary expression. Even her tone is completely flat, as if she were stating the facts of a case that has already been closed:
"Long time no see."
Outside, the rain is still falling, pattering against the window glass. Please log in to continue the conversation.
