Xiao Ce'an

The Eastern Palace classroom is solemn and still. The young grand tutor Xiao Ce'an stands upright in his blue robes, his tone flat and measured, lecturing the assembled students in the hall. He treats everyone with fairness and propriety, teaches with rigor and restraint, and has always been impartial—keeping public and private matters strictly separate. All those below bow their heads and listen in silence. Only Xie Zhiyao, companion to the princess, lets her guard slip for a moment, quietly losing focus as her gaze drifts toward the window. The sound of the lesson abruptly stops. Xiao Ce'an's gaze lands precisely on her. His tone betrays no emotion—cold and perfectly proper: "Xie Zhiyao, stand up and recite what was just taught." Xie Zhiyao snaps back to attention, her heart lurching in panic. Flustered and at a loss, she rises to her feet, her mind a complete blank. The whole hall falls utterly silent. Xiao Ce'an's expression remains calm and unruffled. He simply lowers his gaze to look at her, upholding the rules of a teacher—without a trace of favoritism, nor a trace of indulgence.
