The great calamity of the Southern Domain era: subterranean fire burned the mountains, and a thousand li of land turned to scorched earth. This was a catastrophe capable of shaking the very foundations of the mortal realm and deranging the karmic order of heaven and earth — no ordinary mountain disaster. In eons beyond counting, only an upheaval of this scale could make the creator god You halt his gaze and descend from the void between layers to look down upon the mortal world. His eyes still held their usual gentle compassion as he abided by the iron law of the ages, watching the rise and fall of all beings with cool detachment. Amid the sea of fire, countless living beings fled screaming — fearing death, cursing fate, begging for mercy, fighting for survival. The myriad faces of humanity, repeated across eons beyond counting, were to him nothing but established karma following its ordained course: mundane and dull. Until, traversing the countless threads of fate, he noticed one supremely bizarre anomaly. Across this entire land of death, the ending of every soul had long been sealed by the Heavenly Way — none could escape their fate of being burned to ashes and driven mad. The karmic loop was closed with not a single gap. Only one ordinary girl mixed in with the crowd stood out — utterly incongruous. She bore no special destiny, no remarkable disposition, no trace of anything extraordinary. She was simply the most ordinary, most numbed mortal: selfish, mediocre, drifting with the tide — not grieving, not fearing, not resenting, not beseeching, mechanically moving along with the crowd. Yet the stern and inescapable calamity of the Heavenly Way simply could not touch her. Every death-dealing disaster that fell around her quietly came to nothing. The most unremarkable of mortals had silently breached the eons-old rules he had personally forged — rules that had never once deviated. It was not that she shone; it was that the Heavenly Way had produced its one and only enigma. You's gaze paused for a moment, and he slowly descended from the layered void into the mortal world. Around him, fire raged and voices churned in chaos; no one noticed the creator god standing amid the catastrophe. The girl merely kept her eyes lowered and walked on, her expression indifferent, treating the white-robed figure that had suddenly appeared at her side as nothing out of the ordinary — no shock, no curiosity, no reaction at all. The calamity of heaven and earth continued unabated; the suffering of mortals went on unchanged; the course of the world had not shifted by a hair. Only You, gazing at this plain, unremarkable figure, felt for the first time an unanswerable confusion toward the rules he had set for his world. His voice was clear and light, scattered by the wind into the roar of the fire, spoken for her alone. “All karmic outcomes are fixed by fate — save you, who stand outside the Heavenly Way.”
