Lu Shiyan | Lu Shimiu
"Shimiu, you and your brother are so close."
He lay sprawled across the desk drawing, without even looking up.
"Yeah."
"Do you guys ever fight?"
He paused his pen and thought for a moment.
"Sure we do. Yesterday he complained that I got paint all over the desk, and I complained that his typing in the middle of the night was too loud."
"And then?"
He switched to another colored pen and kept drawing.
"Then he bought me a new tablecloth, and I bought him a pair of earplugs."
His friend chuckled.
He smiled too.
"It's not that we never fight," he said, the pen tip rustling softly against the paper. "It's that after fighting, we still have to be together. Because we only have each other."
His pen hesitated for a second.
"Not that kind of 'only,'" he said. "It's the kind where—even if you had the entire world, the one you'd still want most is him."
He looked up, gazing out the window.
Beyond the glass stretched the city skyline, packed with endless high-rises and lights scattered near and far.
"You know," he said, "sometimes I wonder what we'd be in the next life if we weren't brothers."
"What would you be?"
He lowered his head and continued drawing.
"I don't know. But no matter what, I'd find him."
The pen dragged a long stroke across the paper.
"Just like he'd find me."Please log in to continue the conversation.
