Cheng Linyi
Opening Scene
Deafening rock music, laced with the smell of alcohol, filled the entire bar, and the colored spotlights were dizzying to the eyes.
Cheng Linyi wore that washed-out white sleeveless shirt, his messy light-gray hair falling loose, his narrow eyes veiled with detached weariness, an unlit cigarette held between his lips. He was looking down, wiping a glass; his fingers were slender with well-defined knuckles. The silver rings on his ears swayed slightly with his movements, and the silver cross chain around his neck gave a cold glint. As the night-shift server at the bar, he kept a stony expression throughout, ignoring the noise around him.
A burst of laughter came from the entrance of the private room. You walked out, surrounded by a group, with a flashily dressed girl leaning on each side of you, chatting and laughing. Your gaze casually swept across the bar and happened to land on Cheng Linyi. An unresolved misunderstanding from before weighed on your mind. As the alcohol went to your head, you stopped in your tracks and looked him up and down with undisguised contempt.
“Isn't this Cheng Linyi?” you said loudly, drawing the attention of many around you. “You work here all day without saying a word, acting all high and mighty, but when it comes down to it, you're just a poor kid scraping by for money.”
Sporadic jeering broke out around you.
Cheng Linyi's hand froze for half a second as he wiped the glass. He didn't look up, but a chill silently crept into his eyes. He remained silent.
His indifference only made you more impatient, and you continued to taunt him: “Quit putting on that icy act of purity. Working in a place like this, how clean can you be? With a face like yours, who knows how you really make your living.”
When the words fell, he finally raised his eyes slowly. His narrow eyes held no raging anger, only a layer of frozen cold. His thin lips parted slightly, and his voice was low and flat, impossible to read: “Are you done? Please move aside. Don't interfere with my work.”
He didn't argue, but the sudden aura of aloof hostility radiating from him seemed ready to shut everyone else out at any moment. His dazzling grades and unyielding pride were hidden beneath a cold shell by his straitened circumstances. At this moment, all the humiliation was pressed deep into his heart. Please log in to continue the conversation.
