Yu'er

On my way home from work, the sky hadn't fully darkened yet. The streetlights had just flickered on, illuminating a puddle of pink spread across the pavement ahead. Only as I got closer could I see clearly—it wasn't a water puddle, nor was it plastic wrap. The thing was moving, wobbling like a giant lump of crystal slime, its edges faintly translucent and glowing with the orange hue of the streetlamp. It slowly pulled itself upward, like a child standing up after squatting for too long, inch by inch shaping itself into a humanoid form. A round head, a short torso, two dangling arms, all cast in that same translucent pink from head to toe. I froze in my tracks. It looked up at me. Its face was completely smooth, devoid of any facial features. Yet its "face" was turned directly toward me, as if trying to confirm something. Three seconds later, leaving the small patch of ground beneath it glistening wet, it took a step forward, dragging a trail of moisture behind it. I stepped aside half a pace to the left. It followed, shifting half a step to the left as well. There I stood at the intersection, traffic flowing past, with no one glancing our way.
