Xiao's Private Hospital
The hospital room is dead quiet. Xiao Yuduo leans half-upright against the headboard, his left arm in a cast suspended from his neck by a sling. A patch of white gauze is taped to his forehead.
Instead of his usual black suit, he wears an oversized hospital gown, the collar unbuttoned to reveal a generous expanse of skin.
"Yo, still alive?" 你 pushes open the door of the hospital room, teasing him without a shred of restraint.
Hearing the taunt, Xiao Yuduo pulls his gaze away from the window. He rolls his eyes in annoyance and reaches out with his uninjured right hand for the glass of water on the nightstand.
"If you'd come half an hour later, you'd only be in time for my funeral feast." He sets the glass back down on the nightstand with a sharp clink. A few drops of water splash out, and he pulls a tissue to wipe his hands in disgust. He scans 你, standing at the doorway, from head to toe. "I knew nobody else would come to visit me except you. Zhou Ruotong, that ungrateful woman, hasn't even replied to a single message. I crashed and totaled a Pagani just to chase her car."
He tugs at the hem of his hospital gown and wriggles up slightly into a more comfortable position. Then he presses the remote control in his hand to raise the head of the bed a bit higher.
"What are you standing there for? Find a seat. There's not a single decent-looking person in this dump of a hospital—just a bunch of cold-faced doctors." He points at the leather sofa by the bed, his tone utterly matter-of-fact. "While you're at it, hand me that tablet over there. I want to check Mingxi's updates in Europe."
As he speaks, he presses his temples, clearly thoroughly annoyed by his current situation. Outside the window, the sky is dreary and dark, rain drumming heavily against the glass. He runs a hand through his hair in frustration, exposing his smooth forehead.
"You drove here, right? Did anyone corner you downstairs?" He suddenly remembers something and looks up at 你. "Those paparazzi have been camping around the hospital like lunatics these past two days. If they snap a picture of you coming into my room, tomorrow's hot searches will be full of nonsense again. I'm not afraid of what they write, but it's annoying. If you get caught on camera, I'll have someone revoke that media outlet's license immediately."
His young-master demeanor displays itself to the fullest in front of 你. With others, he might still maintain the front of an aloof, domineering CEO, but in front of a trusted friend, he always does whatever feels most comfortable.
"And another thing—you came to visit a patient without even bringing a fruit basket? You couldn't even buy a couple of oranges from the convenience store downstairs just to go through the motions?" He lets out a cold snort, his eyes landing on 你's empty hands. "You really just came to watch the show. I shouldn't have expected a shred of sympathy from you."
The coffee table in the outer parlor of the suite is already piled high with imported fruits and supplements sent by various executives, all left there to gather dust under his disdainful gaze. He is simply used to bickering with 你; if he doesn't find something to complain about, he feels restless all over.
"You have no idea how stubborn Zhou Ruotong [the stand-in sister in the story] is." He launches into a rant, gesturing in midair with his right hand. "She actually told me I don't know what love is at all! I bought her a luxury apartment downtown, and she didn't want it. I had her transferred to the sales department, handed her deals on a silver platter to make her sales manager, and she said I insulted her dignity. Last night during the torrential rain, she insisted on walking down the street alone. I followed slowly behind her in my car, and she just sprinted like crazy."
He pauses, as if realizing how embarrassing the next part sounds. Clearing his throat, he continues.
"So I slammed on the gas to catch up. But the road was slippery, and a stray cat suddenly darted out in front of me. To dodge the cat, I swerved straight into the green belt. When the airbags deployed, I thought I was really done for. And what does she do? Takes one look, flags down a cab, and leaves! She didn't even bother to call an ambulance for me."
The more he talks, the angrier he gets, his chest heaving heavily. The rims of his eyes even turn slightly red—purely out of sheer frustration and rage.
"I just don't get it. Where did I go wrong? Mingxi ran off back then without a word, too. Now even a stand-in dares to give me an attitude." He stares fixedly at the ceiling, gritting his teeth as he mumbles, looking as though he's trying to bore a hole through the white wall.
He turns his head to look at 你, his eyes burning with resentment and a desperate need for validation. "Tell me, what am I missing? Am I not rich enough, or am I not handsome enough? Is there something wrong with their eyes?"
Firing off this string of questions, he is clearly waiting for 你 to give him an answer, or at least hoping 你 will chime in and agree with him. But he doesn't hold out much hope; knowing 你, this person will eight out of ten times take the opportunity to mock him further. Still, he can't help venting all these miserable occurrences, as if voicing them aloud might dissolve some of the knot in his chest.
"Don't just stand there watching the show—say something!" He glares at 你, pressing. "If you dare to side with Zhou Ruotong today, I'll have someone throw you out right now."
"Come over here, and while you're at it, go downstairs and buy me a QQ Berry milk tea—extra ice, 30% sweetness, no QQ toppings," he orders naturally. He licks his dry lips, feeling his throat burning uncomfortably. "The water in this hospital isn't fit for human consumption. I need something cold to bring down my feverish anger. Nobody can talk me out of it today. I just survived a car crash and suffered such a huge grievance—I must have an icy drink to soothe it."
"Don't drag your feet. I know you're too lazy to move, but I'm the patient right now. Have a little awareness of caring for the sick, would you? And while you're at it, get an ice cream from that trendy dessert shop. Zhou Ruotong argued with me right in front of that shop yesterday. I want a bite to see if that place's feng shui is cursed against me."

A: (Silently pull his phone out right in front of him, download Meituan Waimai and Ele.me, and order both the milk tea and ice cream without saying a word, radiating a smugly playful vibe the entire time)
B: Yo, look at the monkey ordering a human around.
C: (Narrow your eyes at him) *Shinjitsu wa hitotsu ni* (Conan meme). She was walking slowly ahead of you... Logically speaking, at such a slow speed, even if you bumped into something it'd just be a minor scratch... How did you end up looking like this? Leniency for confession, severity for resistance.
