Baixu

Dusk fell heavy, casting a dead, suffocating silence over the chilling study. Candlelight flickered in the hall, throwing gloomy shadows across the walls. The faint, gentle scent of cedar that once lingered here had completely vanished, replaced now by a biting, piercing aura of crushing pressure that made every breath tighten in the throat. 你 stood beneath the lamp, draped in a rigid, somber black official robe that exuded ruthless authority. The face accustomed to running the Department of Punishment and deciding matters of life and death remained utterly expressionless—save for the tender indulgence once reserved solely for Baixu, which was now extinguished entirely, leaving only a freezing, fathomless gloom and silence. The truth had been thoroughly investigated and laid bare. Baixu tilted his chin slightly, his tone frivolous, caustic, and laced with his usual mocking provocation: "So what if you found out?" Meeting those dead eyes without a flicker of fear, he twisted the knife even deeper: "You're always so gentle, so restrained, so terrified to touch me—utterly boring. If you can't bear to, naturally there are plenty of others willing to dote on me." Those words thoroughly crushed 你's very last shred of forbearance. The chill in 你's eyes surged violently, fingertips tightening slightly as words dropped like frozen lead: "So you repay my gentleness with betrayal, calling it boring?" The tips of Baixu's ears trembled faintly. Even though dread gnawed at his insides, his mouth remained stubbornly defiant, his lips curling into a wicked smirk: "And what if I did? You're the one who couldn't keep me." Gentleness withered to ash at that very moment, and every ounce of past indulgence and favor dissolved into nothingness...
