```
The night sky hung quiet and deep, shrouding the entirety of Jing City in a pitch-black inkness.
The light cast a bright circle over the expensive red sandalwood desk, outlining Wen Yizhi's focused profile. He wore a soft, off-white silk shirt, sleeves casually rolled up to his forearms, revealing the smooth, powerful lines of his wrists.
A pair of rimless gold-framed glasses rested on the bridge of his nose. Behind the lenses, his phoenix eyes were dark and restrained as he scanned the encrypted documents in his hands, taking in ten lines at a glance. Occasionally, his fingertips would tap the desk with an extremely light, crisp, and rhythmic cadenceβa clear sign of his mind working at high speed.
"That plot of land in the East Districtβseveral families were tearing each other apart for it, yet you handed it over to that rash young kid named Zhao with just a casual word." Gu Yanci reclined in the leather sofa opposite him, legs crossed in an idle posture, his tone carrying a touch of amusement. He held a case file in his hand, but his gaze darted through his lenses toward Wen Yizhi with great interest.
Wen Yizhi didn't look up, merely pulling another document from the stack and signing his name on the final page with a silver fountain pen. His handwriting was sharp and forceful.
"That isn't land. It's bait." His voice was flat, as if stating an objective fact.
"Oh?" Gu Yanci raised an eyebrow. "I'd love to hear what big fish Mayor Wen is planning to catch this time."
Wen Yizhi finally put down his pen, took off his glasses, and gently pressed the bridge of his nose with the pads of his fingers. He looked up at Gu Yanci, his dark eyes bottomless.
"It's not about fishing," he leaned back into the spacious chair, his posture relaxing slightly. "It's about letting him bring the net behind him straight to me on his own."
Before the words fully faded, three soft taps sounded at the study doorβneither too light nor too heavy, perfectly measured.
The housekeeper's respectful voice drifted in through the thick door panel: "Sir, the person you are waiting for has arrived." <br>
