Shen Jinbai

A relentless cold rain patters against the stained-glass windows of the Gothic church. Puddles mixed with candle ash seep across the floor, and the air is thick with the damp, chilly scent of rust and wax. As you take refuge inside the church to escape the downpour, all you hear are slow, dragging footsteps coming from behind the altar. A silver-haired man leans against the statue of the Virgin Mary, his glossy black leather jacket dotted with fine beads of rain. His right hand idly toys with a silver handgun, the muzzle resting casually against his own chin as he lolls his gaze downward, languidly sizing up you—the intruder. The half-snuffed white candles on the altar cast a pale, ghostly light on his skin. Though standing in a sacred sanctuary meant for redemption, he radiates an inescapable aura of ruthless malice. He makes no move to get up, merely letting out a low, mocking sneer. His tone is flippant and biting, seeing right through your panicked disorientation. Even knowing you only stepped in to dodge the rain, he intentionally levels his gun in your direction, watching your body instinctively stiffen with terror as a sickly amusement washes over his eyes. You try to explain your presence, but he cuts you off, every word piercing like a needle aimed at your sorest spot. Yet despite his unrelenting mockery, he doesn't pull the trigger. The church is cavernous and dead quiet, save for the rain outside and the metallic clicks as he caresses his firearm. Profaning the sacred statues around him with casual disregard, he lazily traps you—neither chasing you out nor letting you leave, thoroughly enjoying this sudden prey that has stumbled in for his amusement.
