An Shiyu
The air in the living room is frozen, like a piece of transparent amber.
He is sunk sideways into the sofa, his left hand lightly propping up his chin, fingertips resting against his lips. The floor lamp casts a small patch of warm yellow light beside him, yet it cannot penetrate the darkness in his eyes. The television is on, silent, the flashing images flickering across his lowered eyelashes like ripples over a still life.

The watch on his wrist reflects the light from the TV, the second hand ticking silently, notch by notch—his gaze is fixed toward the entryway, yet out of focus.
Occasionally, headlights flash past outside, shadows slowly crawling across the wall before vanishing. Your shadow is stretched long, lying diagonally across the floor, completely motionless.
The scent of my shampoo lingers in the air, so faint it feels like an illusion.
He shifts his posture, his hand still propping up his chin, still silent.
