Su Nianyu

The Clingy One The wind at the turn of late summer and early autumn carries a slight chill, gently swaying the sheer curtains in the living room. When the doorbell rang at the entrance, you were helping your parents, who were about to visit relatives, check their luggage. Opening the door, you bumped straight into a pair of bright, watery, light brown amber eyes. Su Nianyu stood beside his parents, his short silver-gray hair softly clinging to his forehead, the ends slightly curled. His cold, pale cheeks made the natural light red at the outer corners of his eyes look all the more eye-catching. He was slender but broad-shouldered with a narrow waist, holding a small suitcase in his hand and cradling a glass jar of cookies in the crook of his arm. Upon seeing you, he obediently curved his eyes and softly called out, "brother/sister," yet his gaze remained glued to you, not shifting even a fraction. His parents are long-time close friends of your family. Since the couple had to travel out of town to follow up on an intangible cultural heritage project for their cultural and creative studio, they asked your parents to look after him for a few days. As it happened, your parents were visiting relatives, leaving only you to take care of this boy who was a few years younger than you. While the elders exchanged pleasantries and instructions, he stood quietly, his fingertips rubbing the thin black leather bracelet on his wrist, the silver stud in his left ear shimmering slightly. He kept stealing glances at you, and whenever he caught your eye, he would purse his lips and smile gently, the faint pink mole in the middle of his lower lip moving slightly. He looked so obedient, yet his eyes hid an irrepressible excitement. The moment the door locked after sending off the elders, all of Su Nianyu's restraint vanished. He put down his luggage and quickly stepped closer, the cunning in his eyes fully revealed. He reached out to gently hook your hem, his grip loose and relaxed, carrying a tentative intimacy: “Brother/sister, I'll be in your care from now on.” As he spoke, he leaned in closer, his knee gently pressing against your calf. The scent of soap on him, mixed with his refreshing youthful aura, made your heart itch. When you told him to familiarize himself with the surroundings, he didn't mind; he just smilingly became your little shadow, following you wherever you went, the joy in his eyes direct and intense. The afternoon sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow across the living room floor. As you curled up on the rug flipping through a book, the space beside you quickly sank. Su Nianyu approached with a plate full of bright red strawberries, his knees pressed tightly against yours. Instead of handing over the plate, he picked up the plumpest strawberry and waved it before your eyes, his voice deliberately soft and sweet: “Brother/sister, this stem is prickly. Can you bite it off for me?” The tip of the strawberry was so close it almost touched your lips, and his silver-gray hair fell, brushing against the back of your hand, sending a tickle straight to your heart. Just as you were about to open your mouth, he suddenly pulled his hand back and took a small bite. The strawberry juice glistened on his lips. Then, he leaned in close, your noses almost touching, his breath filled with the sweet fragrance of strawberries: “Actually, I still want to feed you, brother/sister... the mouth-to-mouth way.” He hooked his hand around your wrist and pulled you toward him. At some point, he had put on a cat-ear headband, which was now sliding toward his temple, his smooth forehead glistening with a thin layer of sweat. His other hand supported him on the floor, trapping you between him and the sofa, his once-obedient eyes long replaced by a direct, flirtatious gaze: “What are you hiding from, brother/sister?” You propped yourself up on the floor and shrank back, but he took advantage of it to move forward, his warm breath enveloping you. As his lips brushed the corner of yours, you abruptly turned your head to dodge. He let out a low chuckle and didn't press further. Still holding the strawberry stem in his mouth, he rubbed against your fingertips before letting go, the tips of his ears quietly turning red, though his eyes held a look of absolute determination. During the day, while you busied yourself with your own things, he quietly kept you company—either cradling an acoustic guitar on the balcony to play a gentle folk song, the chords drifting into the wind; or nesting in the kitchen to make strawberry tarts, feeding you the moment they were done and taking the chance to brush against your shoulder; or holding up his phone to take photos of the autumn scenery, though the lens was secretly aimed at you, capturing a heart full of affection. In the evening, you went into the kitchen to prepare dinner. Just as you had warmed up the milk, a warm body suddenly pressed against your lower back. Su Nianyu had quietly approached, resting his chin lightly on your shoulder, his hair brushing against the side of your neck, making your spine shiver with a tickling sensation. His voice was low, mixed with the huskiness of someone who had just woken up, but his hands were far from behaved—his fingertips slipped under the hem of your shirt at your waist, lightly tracing your skin and making you shudder: “Brother/sister, I'm hungry. I want the noodles you made last time, with a soft-boiled egg.” You tried to break free, but he tightened his arms to hold you close, using his other hand to bite open the straw of the milk box and bring it to your lips, his fingertip deliberately brushing against your lower lip: “Have a sweet sip first, so you'll have the strength to cook the noodles.” His hot breath fell on your nape, his flirtation confident, yet his tone was as soft as candy: “If you don't feed me, brother/sister, I'll just lean in and drink it myself.” The sweet aroma of milk mixed with his scent enveloped you. You grabbed his wrist to pull him away, but he used the leverage to nuzzle into your neck instead, his lips brushing past your ear as he murmured softly, not behaving in the slightest. He was always polite and distant with outsiders, but with you, even his whining carried a direct sense of possessiveness. As the night deepened, only a dim yellow light remained in the hallway, its faint glow reflecting your shadows overlapping in a sticky embrace. You gripped the bedroom doorknob, about to push the door open, when your wrist was suddenly grabbed. Su Nianyu pressed close from behind, his warm chest against your back, his hot breath sweeping across the side of your neck. His fingertips repeatedly caressed the soft flesh of your wrist, his movements gentle, sending threads of tickling sensations straight to your heart. He leaned forward slightly, trapping you firmly between his arms and the door, his entire being exuding his crisp yet sweet, soft scent. “Brother/sister, I'm afraid of the dark sleeping in the guest room by myself.” His voice was soft and gentle, feigning a bit of grievance. You turned your head and met his remarkably bright eyes, which held not a shred of fear, only excitement and direct, unspoken chemistry. He took the opportunity to lean closer, his nose brushing against your cheek, his lips grazing your earlobe as he whispered: “Can you sleep with me? I'll be good, I won't move around, I'll just hold you, okay, brother/sister?” His other hand quietly clasped your waist, gently pulling you into his embrace with a gentle yet firm force that left you no room to retreat. Your faces were close; the red hue at the corners of his eyes grew deeper, the small mole on his lower lip clearly visible, the cunning in his eyes impossible to hide, his intentions completely transparent. You could clearly feel his steady yet passionate heartbeat intertwining with your own, exceptionally distinct in the quiet night. This hasty stay-over, for him, was a calculated opportunity to get closer from the very first moment his heart skipped a beat upon seeing you. He lowered his head, his lips brushing against your jawline, his voice sweet and seductive as he laid bare all of his sincere, reckless youthful feelings: “Brother/sister, stop hiding from me. I like you.” As the words fell, he lightly bit your earlobe. Seeing that you no longer struggled, a smile filled his eyes, and the hand clasping your waist tightened a bit more, drawing you completely into his arms. The dim hallway light scattered their shadows, and the chill of the autumn night was dispelled by the warmth of their bodies. The fluttering of the heart hidden in the feeding, the whining, and the push-and-pull, accompanied by thick ambiguity, spread wantonly throughout the quiet room.
